This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Principal Architect, Cyber Security - AI based in Canada.

This role offers the opportunity to define and advance security strategies for emerging AI technologies within a complex enterprise environment.

You will serve as a senior security architecture advisor, ensuring AI platforms, models, data pipelines, and applications are secure by design.

The position combines strategic leadership with deep technical expertise across AI security, cloud platforms, data protection, and cyber risk management.

You will collaborate with engineering, AI/ML, privacy, legal, compliance, and security teams to establish practical safeguards for AI innovation.

Your work will directly influence AI governance, security standards, threat management practices, and enterprise technology resilience.

Accountabilities

Responsibilities

The Senior Principal Architect, Cyber Security - AI will provide enterprise-level security architecture leadership for AI initiatives, ensuring emerging technologies are deployed securely and aligned with business objectives, regulatory expectations, and cybersecurity strategies. Key responsibilities include:

Define and maintain AI security principles, standards, guardrails, reference architectures, and secure-by-design patterns across the AI lifecycle. Provide strategic and technical guidance for AI platforms, machine learning environments, generative AI solutions, large language models, and AI-enabled applications. Advise on secure architectures for MLOps pipelines, data platforms, model registries, vector databases, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) solutions, APIs, AI agents, and cloud-based AI services. Conduct AI-focused security assessments, threat modelling exercises, architecture reviews, and control gap analyses. Identify and help mitigate AI-specific risks, including prompt injection, data leakage, model extraction, model inversion, training data poisoning, insecure outputs, excessive AI agent permissions, and supply chain vulnerabilities. Design and support security controls related to identity and access management, privileged access, encryption, secrets management, network security, APIs, logging, monitoring, resilience, and incident response. Partner with engineering, data science, platform, and cybersecurity teams to integrate security practices into AI development, CI/CD pipelines, deployment processes, and operational monitoring. Establish security requirements for AI data handling, including data minimization, anonymization, access controls, retention, lineage, provenance, and protection of sensitive information. Evaluate security risks associated with third-party AI platforms, SaaS AI tools, foundation models, open-source models, APIs, datasets, plugins, and AI marketplaces. Support AI vendor assessments, procurement reviews, onboarding processes, and ongoing supplier security assurance. Collaborate with security operations teams to define AI-specific monitoring, detection, investigation, and incident response capabilities. Monitor emerging AI security threats, attack techniques, industry standards, and regulatory developments, translating them into actionable internal guidance. Promote AI security awareness through workshops, documentation, reusable security patterns, and collaboration with technology teams. Support cybersecurity leadership with AI security strategy, governance activities, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

The ideal candidate is a cybersecurity architecture leader with strong experience securing complex technology environments and a practical understanding of AI-related risks and solutions. Required qualifications include:

Significant experience in cybersecurity architecture, application security, cloud security, platform security, data security, or technology risk. Strong understanding of artificial intelligence, machine learning, generative AI, large language models, MLOps, cloud AI services, and AI application architectures. Proven experience designing, reviewing, and implementing security controls across enterprise technology environments. Experience conducting risk assessments, threat modelling, security architecture reviews, and control maturity assessments. Knowledge of AI-specific security threats, including prompt injection, data leakage, model manipulation, adversarial attacks, insecure AI integrations, and AI supply chain risks. Strong understanding of secure software development practices, DevSecOps, CI/CD pipelines, APIs, identity management, encryption, logging, monitoring, and vulnerability management. Experience working with cloud platforms and modern data architectures. Ability to translate complex technical risks into clear business recommendations for senior stakeholders. Strong communication, documentation, stakeholder management, and influencing skills. Ability to collaborate effectively across cybersecurity, engineering, AI/ML, privacy, legal, compliance, and business teams. Experience working with AI engineering teams, data science teams, AI platforms, or product teams delivering AI-powered solutions is preferred. Familiarity with MLOps platforms, model registries, feature stores, vector databases, RAG architectures, prompt orchestration frameworks, or AI agent technologies is an advantage. Experience with AI security testing, red teaming, adversarial testing, or security assessments is highly desirable. Knowledge of AI governance and security frameworks such as NIST AI RMF, OWASP Top 10 for LLM Applications, MITRE ATLAS, ISO/IEC 42001, ISO 27001, CSA AI Controls Matrix, and secure AI guidance is preferred. Experience working in regulated industries such as financial services, healthcare, telecommunications, energy, defense, or critical infrastructure is an advantage. Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-moving environments while influencing teams without direct authority.
