ROLE OVERVIEW

Thiess is accepting applications for the role of Production Supervisor located in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. The Production Supervisor is a key role supervising the overall day to day operations to ensure the performance, coordination, and management of various resources to achieve safety, productivity, efficiency, quality, service, and profitability for their team and the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure employee Health and Safety through compliance with all safety and mine regulations, company policies and regulations
  • Responsible for ensuring proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment
  • Coordinates open pit activities; loading, hauling, dumping and miscellaneous activities
  • Control pit operations to detect violation of safety regulations and compile safety and production records
  • Assist in work scheduling and planning, ensuring alignment to weekly plan deliverables
  • Prepare reports on accident/incident that happen during the shift
  • Conduct daily pre-shift meetings to ensure employees are informed of safety and production issues
  • Organize training for equipment operators to improve their competencies
  • Understand, promote, and operate by overall company vision, values, goals, objectives and strategies
  • Provide job specific instructions daily basis and monitor progress
  • Ensure that all employees are properly trained on the use of appropriate equipment
  • Communicate routinely and effectively with the Project Manager and other supervisors as required
  • Build and maintain relationships with all stakeholders not limited to but including Technical Services and Maintenance Teams
  • Work collaboratively with the Union and manage in a manner that is supportive and compliant with collective agreement obligations
  • Participate in the weekly planning process by providing inputs and highlighting any shortfalls within the plan that have the potential to disrupt operations
  • Work in compliance at all times with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), including participation in risk assessments, adherence to safe work practices and reporting hazards as per the Internal Responsibility System.
  • Contribute positively to a respectful work environment in compliance with the Code of Conduct and the Healthy, Safe and Respectful Workplace policy
  • Work in compliance with all policies and procedures and the Employee Handbook
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results within a team environment with minimal supervision at times
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • High level of attention to detail and excellent follow-up skills
  • The ability to work in a team environment
  • Mining or heavy industrial construction experience considered an asset
  • Ability and willingness to work different schedules on site based on project needs
  • Post-high school training in a related area

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Surface Common Core and Completion of Generic First Line Supervisor Common Core
  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience as a shift Supervisor, in an open pit, with demonstrated leadership competencies
  • Managing in a unionized workplace preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of OHSA
  • Technical expertise: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or challenging situations
  • Successfully facilitate difficult conversations
  • Listens and seeks confirmation of understanding
  • Ability to relay concepts and train others for competence
  • Effectively respond well to questions in a timely manner
  • Ability to maintain documentation thoroughly and responsibly
  • Must be fluent in the English language
  • Authorization to work lawfully in Canada without sponsorship from Thiess is required

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • Currently based out of the Stobie Open Pit Mine in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada
  • Work schedule: 7 days on / 7 days off, rotating 12-hour shifts (days and nights) (subject to change)
  • Occasional local travel as needed
  • Valid driver's license and access to a personal vehicle
