Position Summary
The Casual Cook is responsible for preparing high‑quality meals in a fast‑paced kitchen environment while maintaining food safety, cleanliness, and efficiency. This role ensures that all menu items are prepared according to company standards, supports kitchen operations, and contributes to a positive guest experience.
Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation & Cooking
- Prepare and cook menu items according to standardized recipes and portion guidelines.
- Ensure food quality, taste, presentation, and consistency meet company standards.
- Set up and stock workstations with necessary ingredients, equipment, and utensils.
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently (ovens, grills, fryers, knives, etc.).
Food Safety & Cleanliness
- Follow all food safety regulations, including proper storage, labeling, and temperature control.
- Maintain a clean and sanitized workstation throughout shifts.
- Adhere to health and safety policies, including safe food handling procedures.
- Perform cleaning duties such as dishwashing, sweeping, and equipment cleaning as needed.
Teamwork & Communication
- Coordinate with kitchen staff to ensure smooth and timely service.
- Communicate any shortages, issues, or concerns to supervisors promptly.
- Support training of new kitchen team members when required.
Operational Excellence
- Follow portion control, waste reduction, and cost‑management practices.
- Assist with inventory rotation and receiving deliveries.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and operational standards.
Qualifications

Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent. Cook/ Culinary program certificate is an asset.
- 1–2 years of cooking or kitchen experience in a health care setting preferred
- Food Handler Certification or equivalent.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of food preparation, kitchen safety, and sanitation.
- Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately.
- Good time‑management skills; able to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize under pressure.
Physical Requirements

Able to stand for long periods of time.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. as needed.

Comfortable working around heat, sharp objects, and kitchen equipment.
