The Opportunity

We are currently seeking aMining Engineerto join ourMines Technical Servicesteam at Garson Mine in Sudbury. This is a fixed-term (12 months) position. This posting is for an existing vacancy.

The Mining Engineer will work with mine operations and technical disciplines to make sure mining operations are planned, developed and operated in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Provide mining engineering support to an existing team of geologists, mining engineers, and geotechnical engineers.
  • Participates in the design, evaluation and support of underground mining operations.
  • Design stoping boundaries for long-term evaluations based upon guidance from the geotechnical department to maximize recovery of ore.
  • Mentor others in the Mines Technical Services team.
  • Review work and provide feedback to others in the Mines Technical Services team.
  • Work with operations to ensure plans are safe, efficient and realistic.
  • Create schedules for development and production by sequencing stopes and development headings with guidance and approval from all parties involved.
  • Maintain a focus on safety for the work being implemented in conjunction with MTS Safety Plan.
  • Identify, analyze, recommend, and bring into action opportunities for safety, productivity, and cost improvements.

About You

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mining Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering Designation (P.Eng.) is preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 4 years mine engineering experience is required.

Skills:

  • Underground mine design, mining engineering, scheduling, and high level of understanding of underground mining activities.
  • Knowledge of engineering planning software (Deswik) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of cash flow modeling techniques and mineral economics is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and familiar with spreadsheet manipulation in Excel.
  • Be creative, not only use past practices but promote new ways of doing things in order to maximize the value of our mineral resources.
