Position: Managing Editor

Salary: $780 biweekly
Term: June 2026- April 2027
About the Position: The Manitoban is the official students’ newspaper of the University of Manitoba. The Managing Editor is responsible for ensuring the day-to-day operations of the newspaper are completed in a timely manner, editing in conjunction with the Editor-in-Chief, recruiting and training volunteers, and other tasks as necessary. The Managing Editor must attend weekly meetings on Monday and Wednesday evenings.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate has previous writing, editing, and leadership experience through education and/or work. They enjoy writing and have a good understanding of the English language and Canadian Press writing style. Experience with regular assignment deadlines is also an asset. Those with management experience will be favoured. Applicants should currently be a post-secondary student or have been a post-secondary student in the past two years.

The Manitoban has been reporting on University of Manitoba student news since 1914. It is published monthly during the summer and each week of regular classes during the academic year by the Manitoban Newspaper Publications Corporation.
The Manitoban is an independent and democratic student organization, open to participation from all students. It exists to serve its readers as students and citizens.
The newspaper’s primary mandate is to report fairly and objectively on issues and events of importance and interest to the students of the University of Manitoba, to provide an open forum for the free expression and exchange of opinions and ideas, and to stimulate meaningful debate on issues that affect or would otherwise be of interest to the student body and/or society in general. The Manitoban serves as a training ground for students interested in any aspect of journalism.
