##Qualifications
MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or directly related field is required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Experience managing large complex library technology projects and teams is required.
- Seven years of directed related field experience in library system management and programming experience with major programming languages required.
- Experience in systems analysis and project management is required.
- Must have technical work experience in an academic library environment.
- Knowledge of relational databases, application programming languages and web technology is required.
- Experience leading technical staff is required.
- Sufficient financial knowledge and experience to advise on budget and other financial documents, maximize department resources and maintain control over cost is required.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Must have solid demonstrated analytical and creative problem-solving skills along with constructive thinking and demonstrated effective strategic planning ability.
- Skill in communicating technical/complex information both verbally and in writing is required.
- Effective negotiation/influencing skills is required.
- Flexibility in approach to project and staff management is required.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and the ability to work as a member of a team are required.
- Ability to manage technical staff and prioritise work is required.
- Ability to plan, organize and schedule projects is required..
- Ability to determine technical requirements and consult effectively with Libraries staff, Libraries Administration, IST staff and consortia groups is required.
- Demonstrated organizational ability is required.
- Ability to work in harmony with others, to exercise diplomacy and tact are required.
- Demonstrated ability to learn is required.
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
OTHER JOB RELATED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Physically capable of performing the duties as assigned.
##Key responsibilities
- Coordinate, organize, prioritize and schedule the implementation, configuration, maintenance and upgrade of technology within the library facilities, including but not limited to the Digital Scholarship Commons, the XR Lab and the Digitization Centre.
- Collaborate with university stakeholders and national partners to identify technical requirements, analyze feasibility, and design systems that optimize information delivery and access.
- Provide technical support to other team members with the day-to-day operation of library systems and technology-driven facilities as required, including but not limited to system implementation, configuration and upgrade, data ingesting and manipulation, metadata cleanup.
- Define project risks and develop comprehensive contingency plans and mitigation strategies for library system deployments.
- Serve as the primary technical liaison between the libraries and Information Services and Technology (IST) to ensure infrastructure alignment.
- Lead and supervise a team of 7 employees, overseeing their daily workflows, professional development, and performance evaluations.
- Manage the day-to-day technical operations of assigned library systems, ensuring seamless interoperability between physical technology spaces and digital networks to meet the UML’s operational requirements.
- Provide high-level guidance to the team on complex tasks, including system configuration, data ingestion, metadata cleanup, and advanced troubleshooting.
- Partner with Research Services and Digital Strategies, and User Services and Fulfillment to iteratively improve the functionality and accessibility of library technology facilities.
- Consult with technical and information professionals within the university and at other national institutions collaborating on feasibility and workability of design concepts to meet information delivery and access needs.
- Develop reports on the status of library systems and projects for the Associate University Librarian, Open Scholarship and Systems and relevant project stakeholders/sponsors.
- Review the status reports of team members across library technology projects and address issues as appropriate.
- Prepare job descriptions and performance evaluations of staff that report to the incumbent.
- Other duties as assigned.
