Contribute to Practice Inspection and Oversight
Promoting Integrity and Continuous Improvement in the Profession
CPA Ontario is currently in search of a Practice Inspector who will be responsible for performing a key regulatory function in protecting the public, by assessing whether firms are maintaining professional standards for engagements covered by the CPA Canada Handbook – Assurance, including audit, review and compilation engagements, and compliance with CPA Ontario’s By-law and Regulations and the CPA Code of Professional Conduct.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Planning and performing inspections of quality management systems and engagement files, including leading larger inspections being performed as part of a team. Assisting with the scheduling of practice inspections and the selection of files for desk inspections.
Supervising part-time inspectors and performing hiring, training and evaluation activities, reviewing inspection files and reports, responding to inquiries from part-time inspectors and practising offices.
Updating the practice inspection program tools, including proprietary software used for inspections, the guidance materials provided to inspectors and CPA Ontario’s web pages relating to practice inspection.
Performing technical reviews of practitioner tools, such as forms, guidance materials, and other documents, as required. Assessing the suitability of Action Plans submitted by firms in response to inspection results.
Monitoring the application of the practice inspection program, both internally and nationally. Communicating the requirements of the practice inspection program to members, including presentations to member groups as requested.
Researching accounting and assurance matters as necessary and continuing to remain current by completing technical reading and attending professional development courses.
Exchanging mutual feedback with respect to the inspection programs of the Canadian Public Accountability Board (CPAB) and the other provincial bodies and special projects, as they arise.
Who You Are:
A CPA member in good standing with a minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience, combined with a strong working knowledge of professional standards and regulatory requirements. Experience at a senior level in an audit firm and/or involvement with the practice inspection program of another regulatory body. Experience auditing Reporting Issuers would be an asset.
Able to build upon a culture of quality in the context of public accounting.
A proven relationship builder with excellent interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), presentation, and customer service skills with a proven ability to deal with individuals and complex situations with tact and diplomacy. Working knowledge of written business French is considered an asset.
Technically savvy and knowledgeable in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel. Teams, PowerPoint, Outlook and SharePoint. Experience with Salesforce, CaseWare and AI are considered an asset.
A demonstrated self-starter, with excellent organization and time management skills and able to meet deadlines and complete deliverables with attention to detail and accuracy.
Able to work within a team environment and foster collaboration while also working independently.
Able to travel within the local area in order to perform off-site inspections between May and January as required.
