Hospitality Services at Western is passionate about delivering superior quality in food, nutrition and service, and strives to support the over-all mission and goals of the University. Hospitality Services serves over 32,000 people on a daily basis through three interdependent departments - Campus Operations, Residence Dining, Conferences, Catering & Event Services. We have over 600 employees working in Hospitality Services providing our guests with a wide variety of options and choices to fulfill their dietary needs.
Responsibilities
The Registered Dietitian will support the mission of Housing & Ancillary Services by applying the science of food, nutrition and environmental sustainability to the areas of menu development and promotion, nutrition education, allergen risk management, food safety, food insecurity, workplace wellness and food policy development. The Registered Dietitian will develop and oversee Hospitality Services vision and goals towards campus well-being related to food and nutrition. The Registered Dietitian will collaborate in the development, implementation and evaluation of well-balanced, nutritionally-sound, allergen-friendly menus that meet the needs of Western’s diverse campus community. The Registered Dietitian provides nutrition guidance to individuals and groups and provides nutrition support to all students on the meal plan through email, virtual or in-person consultations, as needed. The Registered Dietitian will oversee the department’s vision and goals related to allergens and food intolerances and will develop campus-wide nutrition workshops and communications.
Qualifications
Education:
- Undergraduate Degree in Food and Nutrition or Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Nutrition (or equivalent), with recognized internship from accredited facility
- Membership in the College of Dietitians of Ontario
Experience:
- 3 years’ experience in nutrition, dietetics or related field in a healthcare, foodservice or educational setting
- Experience in program development, implementation and evaluation is preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to provide strategic analysis and recommendations for designing and implementing new and changing strategies and processes
- Project management skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously from conception to completion within tightly prescribed timelines
- Communication skills with an ability to complete detailed analytics and reports
- Competency to maintain confidentiality and treat sensitive information with discretion
- Client service skills to understand customer needs and expectations, with a desire to deliver helpful and reliable service to the University community
- Ability to produce high-quality results and workable solutions that meet client needs
- Ability to act on new information and effectively contribute in a changing environment
- Ability and willingness to employ a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and making decisions
- Ability to make appropriate decisions and resolve issues by identifying the critical elements of a problem situation and considering each aspect
- Ability to establish rapport with people from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to handle details with a high degree of accuracy and to organize and prioritize a high volume of work to meet deadlines
- Commitment to ongoing professional development with a desire to take on new challenges
- Ability to remain highly motivated, resilient, innovative, and collaborative when faced with challenges
- Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
- Influential interpersonal skills that build positive and strong relationships at all levels of the organization
