Position Overview:*****

As part of the Core Access Networks team, the IP Network Designer will be responsible for the design and architectural evolution of the Xplore Access & Aggregation networks.

This position reports to the Senior Manager, Access & Aggregation Engineering in Markham, Ontario.

Key responsibilities include:

• Planning and Design (network facility plans, capacity, scalability and security requirements)
• Standards (develop, maintain standards, training to other departments)
• Installation and Configuration (Plans and MOPs for installation and commissioning)
• Preventative Maintenance
• Capacity planning
• Budgeting Support
• Security and Compliance

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Engineering Degree (Electrical or Computer Science) is preferred
• Minimum 5 years of core and access network architecture and design experience in a service provider environment with a focus on internet connectivity, routing and switching
• Ability to think strategically, forecast future trends, and develop long-term plans that align network technology with the organization's growth and goals.
• Ability to analyze data and utilize it to make sound engineering and business decisions.
• Detail-oriented, proven accuracy with reporting, results-focused and the ability to organize and manage multiple projects
• Effective problem solving and analytical skills to address issues swiftly, make informed decisions, and manage crises that may impact network operations.
• Strong project management skills with the ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously and deliver results within established timelines.
• Excellent oral and written communications to convey complex technical concepts to various stakeholders, negotiate with vendors, and collaborate across departments.
• Own and manage relationships with strategic peering, transit and content partners, representing Xplore within the internet community
• Provide third level problem escalation support
• Participate in an On-call rotation according to the schedule
• Develop tools for measurement, analysis and optimization of network performance
• Install the necessary hardware/cables to implement and maintain physical and logical network simulations in the Markham lab facility
• Create and execute detailed lab test plans for new architectures, technologies, vendors and features
• Create documentation and provide training on the architecture, operations and troubleshooting of Xplore’s internet connection architecture
