Key Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and safety inspections on all buses and division vehicles
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electronic system issues
- Complete repairs on engines, drivetrains, brakes, HVAC, fuel systems, and specialized equipment
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, inspection reports, and digital records
- Provide emergency roadside support and coordinate towing or repair timelines
- Track fleet maintenance schedules and ensure vehicles meet regulatory compliance
- Maintain inventory of parts, tools, and supplies; order replacements as needed
- Communicate repair needs, safety concerns, and vehicle status to supervisors and drivers
- Winterize vehicles and support seasonal preparation, including snow removal around shop areas
- Test-drive vehicles after repairs to ensure safe operation
Qualifications
- Completion of an Automotive Service Technician program or similar technical training
- Journeyperson Mechanic status preferred
- Valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's License (minimum)
- Class 2 License with S-Endorsement preferred
- Ability to perform heavy physical work (100 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, 20 lbs constantly)
- Ability to work independently and produce journeyperson-quality work
- Strong commitment to safe work practices
Working Conditions
- 8 hours per day
- 12 months per year
- Extensive travel throughout the division and province
- Ability to travel northern roads under adverse conditions
- Overnight stays in various communities as required
Probationary Period
- A one-year probationary period applies to all new appointees.
