You will be joining our diverse team of social scientists who work collaboratively to develop high quality environmental assessments for clients across BC. Our team of social scientists and engagement specialists work in Canada and internationally on environmental and social impact assessments, policy and program development, social management planning, sustainability initiatives, engagement, social due diligence, and third-party monitoring.

We are looking for a highly experienced EA practitioner who has worked across all of the human environment components of EA in BC, with a primary focus on Land and Resources Use Assessment. Experience with Visual Quality and Marine Use assessments an asset.

WeAre WSP

What you can expect to do here:

  • You will lead the technical delivery of land and resource use, marine use and visual quality assessments for environmental assessments in infrastructure, power and sustainable energy, mining, and oil and gas sectors.
  • You will act as a mentor to junior and intermediate staff, as well as work with other senior leaders to provide technical leadership and support long-term vision and growth for the social sciences team.
  • You will participate in a team environment, working closely with Project Managers, Project Coordinators, Project Directors, technical leads, and junior staff to support the delivery of high quality EAs.
  • You will design social research programs and directing secondary research and primary data collection and field work.
  • You will engage with Indigenous nations, regulators, and the public as part of the EA process. You will support and lead proposal development and contribute to business development for the team.

What you’ll bring to WSP:

  • Strong planning, project management and coordination skills to meet our clients’ deliverable requirements, timelines and budgets.
  • Experience in research methods/techniques to gather information, assess, and manage socio-economic effects of major projects.
  • Professional consulting experience in completing Land and Resource Use assessments for EAs in BC.
  • Detail oriented and have a strong focus on quality assurance/quality control and can effectively oversee teams during data collection and reporting.
  • Passion for working in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team environment located locally, nationally, and internationally.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and innovative thinking skills. A positive demeanour towards carrying out your work safely and supporting the safe work of others.

Requirements for the Role:

  • Over 15 years of consulting experience in human environment components of EA. Experience in the BC regulatory system is required.
  • University degree in a relevant field of study such as geography, economics, sociology, anthropology, environmental management. Graduate degree preferred, with recognition of professional experience.
  • Demonstrated social science research skills with practical application to the EA consulting context, including design and implementation of field programs and logistics, equipment usage, and health and safety protocols.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership in your field.
  • Experience working with Indigenous nations, local communities, and the public.
  • Strong team player with proven experience working on multi-disciplinary EA projects and teams.
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, work with a team to solve problems, and maintain strong working relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing.
  • Sound understanding of the need for health and safety procedures in the workplace and possess a safety conscious attitude.
  • Valid Canadian Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record for business travel.
