Reporting to the Manager, Facilities & Construction, this is a contract position expected to last up to one year with the possibility of extension.
The Contract Project Manager will support planning, engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities related to Carbon Engineering’s (CE’s) new Technology Development Campus. They will work with CE’s internal departments and external partners to fully deliver the scope assigned by the CE’s management team. They must be comfortable working independently or with a team of engineers towards multiple deadlines with minimum supervision. Working from the office, home, and traveling to engage with customers, partners, and oversee their work is expected.
This is a Squamish BC based position.
Responsibilities

Interact with internal and external engineering teams to oversee execution of all phases (conceptual planning, design & engineering, procurement, installation & commissioning) of capital projects at CE’s Technology Development Center (TDC) including but not limited to:
-
Tenant Improvement - Direct & manage internal & consultant team to execute Tenant Improvement work including instrument air, waste neutralization, lab equipment, furniture, IT, AV & security.

Electrical Service – Direct & manage the consultant team & BC Hydro to provide electrical service to site.
-
Electrical Distribution – Direct & manage internal & consultant team to execute electrical distribution scope.
-
Servicing Agreement – Direct & manage internal & consultant team to work with District Engineering staff to execute off-site works.

Commissioning – Assist with the commissioning of the building.
-
Develop detailed scope, cost, schedule & execution strategies for capital projects at CE TDC.

Manage, document & report monthly project status, scope changes, schedule, budget & project risks.

Management of owner RFI replies.
-
Identify, report, and resolve unsafe conditions, processes, or actions within the workplace.
-
Ensure that all safety related incidents, accidents and near misses are reported and investigated in line with company policy.
Key Competencies
- Experience working with municipalities to meet the requirements to obtain an Occupancy Permit including but not limited to Development Permit, Soil Management Permit, Building Permit & Site Servicing Agreements.
- Experience working on commercial & industrial developments from design to commissioning.
- Experience in HAZID, HAZOP and other risk analysis and assessment tools is desired.
- Experience participating in & managing simultaneous operations (SIMOPs).
- Strong technical writing and presentation skills with the ability to present technical information, concepts, or study results to project stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
- Expertise in preparing cost estimates, planning, scheduling, and construction of industrial plants starting from front end engineering design and progressing through detailed design, construction, and commissioning.
- Familiarity with the FEP processes and their deliverables, AACE Cost Estimation, CII guidelines and best practices, including PDRI reviews.
- PMI certification is a plus.
- Experience producing typical process engineering deliverables (Process Models, Heat and Material Balances, PFDs, P&IDs, Process control philosophy, Equipment Datasheets, etc.).
- Experience in preparation and issue of RFIs/RFQs, as well as in reviewing vendor’s documents, drawings, datasheets, specification, and calculations.
- Experience in dealing with chemical processes, understanding of specific consumptions of raw materials and utilities, as well as variable, fixed and levelized costs.
- Familiarity with Aspen Plus (Hysys or similar simulation tools).
- Programming skills, especially in Python is a plus.
- Familiarity with Primavera or MS Projects and Project Controls in general.
- Familiarity with Quality Management Systems.
- Understanding of core engineering principles (thermodynamics, heat & mass transfer, fluid dynamics, etc.).
- Experience with CO2 capture technologies, or inexperience in a start-up environment a plus.
- Ability to distill complex problems into simple solutions.
- A self-starter with the ability to work independently towards multiple deadlines with minimum supervision in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to thrive on doing things that have not been done before (explorer mindset) and tackling challenging problems.
- Willingness to travel for customer and partner engagements.
