Primary Objective Of The Position The Senior Director, Line Maintenance is responsible for overseeing all line maintenance operations and activities, apart from YHM. This role will ensure the fleet is maintained to the highest safety and operational standards, while exercising financial accountability for line maintenance budgets, cost control, and vendor spend. The position drives operational efficiency, minimizing aircraft downtime, and optimizing maintenance scheduling across all Canadian bases. The role leads a team of maintenance professionals, manage service providers and collaborate with various departments to ensure seamless coordination and execution of line maintenance tasks, in compliance with regulatory standards, safety and operational excellence.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily operations of line maintenance across all Canadian bases., apart from YHM.
- Ensure timely, efficient, and cost-effective maintenance of the fleet to ensure maximum aircraft availability.
- Develop and implement strategies to minimize aircraft downtime while ensuring regulatory compliance and safety standards.
- Collaborate with Base Managers and maintenance teams at each location to ensure smooth operation of line maintenance services.
- Lead and manage the line maintenance teams on responsible Canadian bases, ensuring proper staffing, training, and operational support.
- Provide direction, mentorship, and performance management to the maintenance teams, ensuring a high level of professionalism and technical expertise.
- Work closely with Maintenance Control and Planning teams to develop and optimize maintenance schedules that align with flight operations.
- Ensure that scheduled maintenance activities are completed on time, minimizing delays or disruptions to the flight schedule.
- Implement proactive maintenance practices to prevent unscheduled maintenance events.
- Deliver aircraft Technical reliability, productivity and workforce commitment through cost effective staffing levels and crew schedules which balance labor costs and other stakeholder needs.
- Provide appropriate staff, facilities, technical & regulatory data, supplies and parts to ensure and MCM/MPM.
- Participate in the base planning and preparation of company budgets and strategic plans surrounding aircraft.
- Provide regular reports and updates to senior leadership on maintenance performance, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
- Assist with returning to service aircraft which may include the identification of parts, tooling, technical data identification and coordination of delivery to required personnel.
- Oversight of projects, coordinate and assign personnel within the department, projects, expectations & timelines.
- Collaborate with M&E Quality and Safety team and provide technical input for Line Maintenance checks and ensure work requirements/packages for maintenance checks are generated and the work packages include all planned tasks, pre-draws, parts, kits etc.
- Ensure department provides technical support/assistance regarding requests from MCC.
- Be knowledgeable with all company and Regulatory manuals/documents pertaining to the work performed.
- Actively promote safety and quality within the organization and department by encouraging employee participation in SMS and ensuring effective communication with all stakeholders.
- Collaborate with other departments to align maintenance priorities with the airline's operational needs.
- Occasional travel may be required to oversee operations at various maintenance bases.
- Flexibility to work outside standard business hours as needed to address urgent operational requirements or emergencies.
- Perform any other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in aviation maintenance, Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree or relevant industry certifications would be an asset.
- Transport Canada Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) certification or equivalent international qualifications.
- Minimum of 12 years of experience in aircraft maintenance or aviation safety, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong technical expertise in aircraft maintenance.
- Proven experience managing line maintenance operations across multiple locations.
- Deep knowledge of Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs), Transport Canada requirements, and international safety standards.
- Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with a proven ability to drive performance and instill a culture of safety.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Analytical mindset with advanced problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results under pressure.
- Ability to thrive in high-pressure environments while ensuring the safety and efficiency of operations.
