About the role

People Can Fly is one of the leading independent AAA game development studios. Our international team consists of hundreds of talented individuals working from offices in Poland, the UK, Ireland, the US, and Canada, as well as remotely across the globe.

Founded in 2002, we made our mark on the shooter genre with titles such as Painkiller, Bulletstorm, Gears of War: Judgment, and Outriders. As one of the most experienced Unreal Engine studios in the industry, we continue to expand on our expertise and push the boundaries of what’s possible in game development.

Our creative teams are currently working on several exciting titles: Gears of War: E-Day developed in collaboration with Microsoft; Project Echo for KRAFTON; and Lost Rift, an original IP we are developing in-house under our self-publishing model. We are also exploring new platforms and experiences with VR and other unannounced projects.

Main Goal of the Role:

Maintaining and building upon the quality standards of PCF development projects by leveraging QA best practices and tools. You will be a crucial part of the QA Leadership team, working directly with developers and serving as a point of contact between feature owners, QA, and Production.

Duties:

  • Assigns, delegates, and supports individuals in their tasks, monitoring and reviewing the progress of their work.
  • Provides constructive feedback and clear communications to enhance behavior and performance, ensuring a continuous improvement approach. Takes responsibility for evaluating their direct reports during periodic performance reviews, providing valuable insights and assessments toward their career development.
  • Fosters an engaging atmosphere within their team, as well as ensuring a healthy work-life balance by setting clear expectations and scope of work, empowering individuals to propose solutions, and express their opinions. Utilizes data such as pulse checks and satisfaction scores.
  • Collaborates and communicates effectively with other Leads, Directors, departments, and project stakeholders on a continuous basis to build trust and work toward the project’s objectives and ambitions.
  • Follows the Director’s guidance/vision and implements it. Contributes to the Director’s direction by providing important data, raising issues, seeking advice, and relaying them to relevant project leaders.
  • Represents QA as a key pillar in project development and aligns with various project stakeholders including PCF Management.
  • Identifies and reports on highest priorities and key QA health metrics.
  • Monitors and improves project bug database health both internally and for project stakeholders.
  • Ability to proactively run and summarize feedback from internal playtests.
  • Needs to thrive in a custom engine tool-driven environment, where automation, reusability, and scalability are expected.
  • Use tools and scripts (Python) to test within the engine’s bespoke toolset.
  • Be technically astute using and navigating a suite of tools that may need debugging and changing scripts or environments to test every type of game build scenario.

Must Have Qualifications:

  • Strong emotional intelligence with capacity to coach and mentor ICs and Managers
  • Expert understanding of project life cycle and its phases
  • Strong reporting acumen with a keen understanding of key stakeholders
  • Professional experience with multiple types of testing (FQA, LQA, Compatibility, Compliance, etc.)
  • Expert in various QA best practices and methodologies
  • Familiarity with a wide variety of tools used in QA testing (Test Case Management, Bug Databases, Microsoft Office/Google suites)
  • Ability to forecast and mitigate risks
  • Passion for video games and interest in developments in the gaming industry

Experience:

  • At least 7 years experience working in console / PC games including prior experience in any leadership capacity
  • Nice to Have Qualifications:
  • Extensive experience in shooters or multiplayer games, either as a developer or player
  • ISTQB certification
  • Certification/Education in gaming-related fields
  • Management experience outside of QA
  • Game development experience
