Located approximately 100 kilometres east of Toronto, NHH delivers a broad range of acute, post-acute, outpatient and diagnostic services. Acute services include emergency and intensive care, medical/surgical care, obstetrical care and palliative care. Post-acute specialty services (PASS) include restorative care and rehabilitation. Mental health care, cancer and supportive care, dialysis and other ambulatory care clinics are offered on an outpatient basis through partnerships with regional centres and nearby specialists. NHH offers a full range of diagnostic services, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) and mammography. The hospital serves the catchment area of west Northumberland County. A mixed urban and rural population of approximately 67,000 residents, west Northumberland comprises the Town of Cobourg, the Municipality of Port Hope, Alderville First Nation and the townships of Hamilton, Cramahe and Alnwick/Haldimand. NHH employs more than 850 people and relies on the additional support provided by physicians, midwives and volunteers. ROLE OVERVIEW
The Echocardiographer, currently vacant, under the direction of the Manager of Diagnostic Imaging and the Internist/Cardiologist, produces and records high quality sonographic images utilizing echocardiogram equipment as required to complete the examinations requested.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

Successful completion of Echocardiography program or equivalent combination of past on-the-job training and a related clinical degree or diploma

Current and ongoing registration with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and/or Canadian Association of Registered Diagnostic Ultrasound Professionals (CARDUP)

Maintain current BCLS certification

Minimum one year’s experience in Echocardiography

Excellent verbal and written communication skills
-
Must be able to work with patients independently and identify urgent medical indicators within the scope of practice and can alert the physician of urgent patient conditions that could affect treatment or further testing.

Computer skills, knowledge EPIC EMR; Microsoft Office, PACs. Knowledge of appropriate ultrasound platforms and reporting software.

Ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment using excellent organizational and time management skills to prioritize duties

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with patients, staff and physicians
-
Demonstrates an understanding of ethical behaviours and confidentiality requirement in a health care institution.

Ability to represent the Hospital with professionalism and compassion for patients and families

Proven good attendance record with capability of maintaining this same standard

Demonstrated compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Legislation and Infection Prevention and Control practices.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- Ability to move patients and push/pull heavy mobile equipment
- May encounter pressure due to complex medical issues of patients
- Standing, sitting, walking – possibly for prolonged periods
- May be required to view computer monitors (flat screen and/or CRTs) for extended periods of time
- Responds professionally and appropriately in high stress and emergency situations
- Required to assist patients during the transfer to and from the stretcher/table (e.g.: to and from wheelchair to stretcher/table, to and from stretcher/bed to stretcher/table etc.)
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
Successful applicants are required provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check, that was complete less than one year from the date of hire. This requirement must be met within the first sixty (60) days of employment.
Additionally, to the above, successful applicants are also required to complete the Health Care Worker Health review process which includes providing an up-to-date immunization record to ensure compliance with the Ontario Hospital Association Communicable Diseases Surveillance Protocols within the first thirty (30) days of employment. Northumberland Hills Hospital operates a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all staff.
