On behalf of our client, Oberland Agriscience, The Warrington Group is seeking their next Vice President, Operations to join their growing organization.
About The Client: Oberland Agriscience, is a Halifax-based agriscience company focused on sustainable solutions for animal, plant, and soil nutrition. Using black soldier fly larvae technology, Oberland turns organic material into valuable products used in areas such as animal feed, pet food, and soil health. Their work brings together biology, manufacturing, sustainability, and technology in a growing production environment. As the business continues to grow, they are looking for a Vice President of Operations who can bring structure, consistency, and strong people leadership to the team. This is a hands-on manufacturing environment, and the right person will be comfortable staying connected to frontline employees while also contributing at the senior leadership level. This role is best suited for someone who understands the realities of running a busy production operation, including safety, quality, scheduling, process improvement, compliance, and cross-functional communication.
The Opportunity: As VP, Operations, you will be responsible for leading the manufacturing and operational side of the business. This role reports directly to the CEO and will oversee production planning, team leadership, scheduling, process improvement, quality alignment, and cross-functional coordination. The VP of Operations will work closely with Quality Assurance, R&D, Sales, Purchasing, Logistics, and Farm Management to make sure production runs safely, efficiently, and in line with business and customer needs. This is not a role for someone who wants to lead only from behind a desk. Our client is looking for someone who is visible, approachable, and connected to what is happening on the floor.
Requirements The ideal candidate is a strong operations leader with significant manufacturing or plant leadership experience. You are someone who knows how to lead people, manage production, solve problems, and keep things moving. You bring a practical leadership style and understand the importance of building trust with employees at all levels of the organization. You are hands-on, approachable, and steady. You can bring structure and accountability without being overly rigid. You know how to work with frontline teams, senior leadership, and other departments to keep the operation aligned. Experience in food manufacturing, agriculture, pharmaceutical, or another regulated production environment would be considered a strong asset. Experience working in a unionized environment would also be an asset.
Responsibilities: ● Leading and supporting the operations and production teams ● Managing staffing, scheduling, training, performance, and employee development ● Building a team culture focused on accountability, communication, safety, and follow-through ● Staying visible and connected with frontline employees ● Developing and managing production schedules based on customer demand and business priorities ● Monitoring daily production performance, resource needs, and operational targets ● Overseeing post-harvest processing activities, including drying, pelletizing, and packaging ● Working closely with Quality Assurance to maintain product standards and compliance ● Coordinating with R&D, Sales, Purchasing, Logistics, and Farm Management ● Supporting feedstock planning, forecasting, supplier coordination, and shipment planning ● Identifying ways to improve safety, quality, efficiency, capacity, and cost control ● Resolving operational issues and putting practical solutions in place ● Helping improve structure, consistency, and communication across the operation
Qualifications: ● 10+ years of experience in manufacturing, production, operations management, or a related field ● Strong plant or operations leadership experience ● Experience in food manufacturing, agriculture, pharma, or a related production environment would be considered a strong asset ● Experience with production planning, scheduling, and resource management ● Strong understanding of safety, quality, regulatory requirements, and operational performance ● Experience working cross-functionally with teams such as Quality, R&D, Sales, Purchasing, Logistics, and Farm Management ● Strong people leadership, coaching, and communication skills ● A hands-on leadership style with the ability to connect with frontline teams ● Experience working in a unionized environment would be considered an asset ● Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills ● Ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy production environment ● Post-secondary education in Business, Science, Operations Management, Engineering, Agriculture, or a related field would be considered an asset
Benefits ● Salary range: $120,000 – $140,000 ● Benefits included ● Vacation: 3 weeks, with potential for 4 weeks depending on experience ● Relocation support may be considered for the right candidate
