Job Description RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position Summary Under the supervision of Dr Salman Qureshi, the technician will perform animal care-related duties, technical procedures and administrative duties related to the use of laboratory animals.

General Duties

  • Performs animal health-related duties: observes and performs physical examinations of animals,
  • Prepares the required equipment, instruments, and reagents for surgery or procedures and provide surgical pre and post-op care,
  • Conducts routine and specialized techniques on laboratory animals (intranasal, intraperitoneal or intravenous injections, intratracheal surgery and organ harvesting),
  • Performs simple mouse-related laboratory tasks (mouse genotyping by PCR and homogenizing organs),
  • Performs husbandry and technical duties related to the care and maintenance of animals (breeding, weaning, identification by ear punch and humane euthanasia),
  • Helps maintain inventory of materials, controlled drugs and small equipment,
  • Operates and monitors appropriate equipment, tools, materials and instruments,
  • Administrative duties (data entry to keep the colony books up-to-date and inventories).

Education / Experience

Education: Diploma of College Studies (DEC)

Field of Study: Animal Health Technology

Other Education Considered An Asset For This Position

  • Experience with murine research models is an asset,
  • AALAS Certification or equivalent considered an asset.

Required Skills

  • Ability to work independently or with teams with minimum supervision.

Additional information

Status: Temporary, full time (35-hour workweek)

Pay Scale: Commensurate with education and experience. $44,408.00 - $82,427.80.

Work Shift: Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm

Work Site: GLEN Site, 1001 boul. Decarie
