About the role
Position Summary:
This role ensures optimal customer service levels, balancing cost, capacity, and lead times. The analyst collaborates closely with internal production planning teams, external vendors, sales, customer service, and logistics to optimize utilization of internal assets and external supplier networks.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning & Execution
- Develop and lead the strategy for order transfer and farmout decisions to support plant capacity constraints, maintenance downtime, and emergency situations.
- Analyze capacity, cost, and delivery timelines to determine when and where to transfer or outsource production.
Farmout Operations
- Identify and maintain a network of approved external corrugated suppliers to support overflow and specialty production needs.
- Evaluate supplier capabilities, lead times, quality metrics, and cost structures to inform farmout decisions.
Cross-functional Coordination
- Collaborate with planners, customer service, sales, and logistics to ensure alignment of customer priorities and order fulfillment strategies.
- Ensure order routing aligns with customer requirements, lead times, and inventory goals.
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Monitor plant capacity, backlogs, and order fulfillment KPIs to proactively identify farmout or transfer needs.
- Track performance of farmout partners and internal transfer effectiveness and recommend improvements.
Process Improvement
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives to reduce costs, improve service, and streamline the transfer/farmout process.
- Support system enhancements or tools related to transfer planning and external sourcing.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in production planning, supply chain, or sourcing—preferably in corrugated packaging or a related manufacturing field.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel, ERP, and Advanced Planning Systems (APS); experience with software like Encore, CTI, or other packaging industry tools is a plus.
- Strong organizational and communication skills to coordinate across plants, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to make decisions in a fast-paced environment balancing cost, quality, and service.
Preferred Attributes:
- Knowledge of corrugated box manufacturing processes, materials, and lead times.
- Experience working across multiple plants or manufacturing sites.
- Strategic mindset with hands-on problem-solving ability.
- Familiarity with make-or-buy decision frameworks or capacity modeling.
