CAMH’s donor funded Margaret and Wallace McCain Centre for Child, Youth and Family Mental Health (McCain Centre) is focused on enhancing and improving the design, delivery and effectiveness of mental health and substance use health systems, services and policies for children and youth aged 6-24. The McCain Centre combines evidence-based and innovative research techniques to ensure strong clinical utility and relevance in their initiatives.

The McCain Centre is also the home of the Youth Wellness Hubs Ontario Provincial Office (YWHO PO) which provides backbone services to Youth Wellness Hubs Ontario (YWHO, www.youthhubs.ca) - a learning health system of 32 funded community-based networks of youth-serving organizations. YWHO is part of a broader pan-Canadian youth mental health system transformation initiative to build integrated youth services (IYS) where young people ages 12 to 25 years have walk-in access to youth-centered, community-based mental health and wellness services informed by youth, family members and service providers. This initiative engages youth, family members and other stakeholders through a co-creation process, ensuring services are designed and delivered according to their needs.

The McCain Centre together with the YWHO PO is currently seeking a full-time, one-year contract Scientific Associate. Reporting to the McCain Centre Manager and the Principal Investigator, the Scientific Associate will support CIHR funded projects that focus on understanding and improving the delivery of integrated youth services (IYS). The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting and leading qualitative analyses of projects and include the following activities: providing support and supervision for required ethics approvals, qualitative data collection protocols and tools, qualitative data collection and analysis, and data management. In addition, the Scientific Associate will collaborate with the project team in understanding the functioning of the learning health system in IYS and youth social and emotional learning. Other responsibilities will include supporting the scientific team in creating, managing and monitoring detailed project work plans; working with research staff; grant-writing; and preparing presentations, manuscripts, and project reports. Opportunities for publishing research articles, grant writing mentorship, and academic and non-academic presentations may be offered. In addition, the successful candidate will have opportunities to support related IYS research, evaluation, and data projects.

As an employment equity employer, CAMH actively seeks First Nations, Inuit and Métis candidates, those from ethno-cultural backgrounds, women, transgender and gender diverse people, people with disabilities, people with experiences of mental health and substance use, and intersecting identities. The successful candidate will have sound knowledge of inclusive environments and will support and implement anti-oppressive and anti-racist best practices in the workplace. Understanding of and appreciation of systemic and personal privilege related to diversity, with ability to work with partners of diverse identities and ethno-racial and cultural backgrounds is required. As a McCain Centre team member you will ensure that McCain Centre values are implemented; particularly regarding anti-oppressive and anti-racist best practices and youth-centeredness.
