About the role
The Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) is seeking an Orthopedic Surgeon to join the North Island Comox Valley Hospital. The successful candidate will hold FRCSC qualification in Orthopedic Surgery and be eligible for full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC.
The successful candidate will be joining a busy community practice of 4 orthopaedic surgeons. The majority of the clinical practice would be expected to be general orthopaedics (e.g. trauma, primary hip and knee arthroplasty). Expertise in shoulder arthroplasty will be considered as an asset, although not necessarily a requirement. An average of 1-2 elective OR days per week is anticipated. The successful applicant will have exemplary interpersonal skills, the ability to work collaboratively within the healthcare environment and demonstrate technical competence in providing orthopedic care.
The Comox Valley Hospital is a new 154 bed acute care facility, managed by Island Health that serves a referral population of 70,000. This new facility has 45 additional beds to accommodate the recent increase in population and includes an 8-bed ICU and a 10-bed telemetry unit. The hospital has a closed ICU and diagnostic imaging services include CT and MRI scanners Island Health is affiliated with the UBC Faculty of Medicine.
Benefits
May be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA) including:
Recruitment Incentive: $10,000 (for full-time)
Relocation Costs Reimbursement: up to $15,000 (amount based on location relocating from)
Fee Premium: 6.93%
Annual Flat Fee: $10,739.52
Rural CME: starting at $3000/annum in year 3 & 4 to a maximum of $6,00.00/annum after 4 years.
