About the role

Position Overview/Summary:

We are seeking a full-time Jr. Accountant who will be reporting to the Manager, Accounting and Reporting and work through the full cycle of accounting activities and month-end duties.

Salary: $ 55,000 per year

With an overall budget of $70 million, it is a highly complex organization that operates as 9 individual business entities across the healthcare service continuum including residential and community care, ambulatory care and a research institute. RESIDENTIAL & COMMUNITY DIVISION

  • A 350-bed long-term care home and 19-bed hospice
  • An on-site and in-home community support program that enhances the social, intellectual and physical well-being of seniors and disabled adults.

AMBULATORY DIVISION

  • A state-of-the-art academic eye surgery and clinical centre of excellence providing ambulatory surgical procedures, medical vision care and ophthalmic training, education, and research.
  • An ambulatory gastroenterology clinic providing endoscopy and colonoscopy screening procedures as well as infusion therapy.
  • A community-based radiology clinic providing general x-ray, ultrasound, mammography, biopsies and bone mineral density services.
  • The Eye Bank of Canada (Ontario division) which collects, preserves and distributes donated human eyes and tissue for sight restoration and sight-saving transplants and grafts.

RESEARCH DIVISION

  • The Kensington Research Institute supports the advancement of health care through the funding of research programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide accounting and clerical support to the accounting department.
  • Prepare and maintain accounting documents and records.
  • Prepare bank deposits and general ledger postings.
  • Reconcile bank account in a timely manner.
  • Reconcile various balance sheet accounts.
  • Daily entry of Accounts Payable information into accounting software (both invoices and payments)
  • Produce monthly reports from AP to help management to identify missing accruals.
  • Keep track of funding received and track expenses against respective funding.
  • Assist in the month-end closing (Prepaid, Amortization of Capital Assets, Intercompany allocations/reconciliations etc.)
  • Maintain documentation for audit and provide support for audit.
  • Maintain effective internal controls and identifying opportunities for improvements
  • Work with cross functional teams to drive improvements and process reengineering.
  • Any other tasks / projects as may get assigned from time to time.

Required Skills and Abilities:

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Bachelor degree and working towards CPA.
  • 3-4-year relevant experiences.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamic 365 is preferred.
  • Experience in long-term care would be an asset
  • Advanced Excel skills, and proficient with MS Office.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to meet established deadlines with good quality; attention to details.
  • Proven capabilities in problem-solving and prioritizing workloads.
