Specialist Engineer (Telecom Asset Management)
Number of positions: 1 Job Location: Edmonds A03
Employment type: Permanent Region: Lower Mainland
Hours of work: Full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) Flexible Work Role: Hybrid
Annual salary: $ 127,900.00 - 161,800.00
What you'll do
The Telecom Asset Management & Planning team has responsibility for the following functions:
- Plan, develop and maintain asset management policies, strategies, and standards for the maintenance, repair and
replacement of telecom equipment in order to maximize the total-life-cycle value of the assets.
- Evaluate power system telecom requirements for internal projects along with customer load and generation System
Impact Studies (SIS).

Optimize Maintenance and Capital investment decisions while managing risk.
-
Collaborate, build and maintain positive working relationships and with multiple groups throughout BC Hydro including;
Engineering, Field Operations, Grid Operations, Stations and Generation Asset Management, Project and Program Delivery
groups and Safety, etc.
- Develop and maintain asset management procurement strategies for key equipment, including the establishment of
economic order quantities for inventoried equipment.
- Identify and prioritize asset needs (OMA or Capital) and establish related annual Maintenance Work Plans and Capital
Plans to address those needs.
- Plan and initiate capital projects including the preparation of supporting investment justifications (business cases) and
definition of project scope, schedule, and costs for a portfolio of prioritized Telecom sustaining capital projects.
- Participate on applicable internal and external industry Telecom working groups and committees (e.g. NERC/WECC,
CEA, IEEE, etc.)
- Provide Telecom subject-matter-expertise support and liaise with other groups throughout BC Hydro, including
Engineering, Field Operations, Grid Operations, Stations and Generation Asset Management, Project and Program Delivery
groups and Safety, etc.
- Participate in the development and definition of asset management strategies and ensure they are implemented
consistently throughout the system.
- Work closely with Planning, Engineering, Operations and IT groups to create and maintain asset health reporting tools and
reports.

Analyze asset health reports for trends indicating the changing performance and reliability of telecom systems.

Contribute to managerial and operational decision making and provide expertise from a maintenance perspective to
enable the organization to meet its business objectives.

Contribute to the emergency replacement sparing program to enable the emergency restoration of failed systems.

Contribute to the ongoing sustainment of positive relationships with external service and equipment suppliers and
manufactures, and other internal and external technical groups to accomplish business objectives and address issues.
What you bring
The successful candidate must have:
-
A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering recognized by Universities in Canada.

Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with Engineers and Geoscientists of
B.C (EGBC).
- Minimum of (10) ten years of proven experience working as an electrical engineer, managing telecom infrastructure and
systems, including MPLS and routing for an electrical utility.
- Experience should also include asset management of grid telecom technologies such as MPLS and routing, optical
transport equipment, microwave radio, multiplexors, and ancillary equipment.
- Demonstrated experience with the planning, design, maintenance, testing and commissioning of Telecom infrastructure
and systems to support power delivery applications on the Transmission and Distribution power delivery systems.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple programs/projects and to plan and manage project resources is essential.
PMP Certification is an asset.
