Manitoba Environment and Climate Change is seeking qualified individuals to fill Mechanic (MH1) positions based out of Turtle Mountain Provincial Park. Turtle Mountain Provincial Park is approximately three hours southwest of Winnipeg.

Duties:

Under the supervision of the Park Works Supervisor (PK3), the Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance and repair of a variety of mechanical equipment from small motors to heavy duty equipment within Turtle Mountain Provincial Park, William Lake Provincial Park and occasionally other areas within the Western Region. The work may involve repairing, rebuilding, remodelling, assembling, installing, welding, overhauling and diagnosing and recording of work performed.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Completion of a certificate or diploma program in Small Motor Mechanics and experience relating to mechanical maintenance and repair. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience in the repair and maintenance of light and heavy equipment (light pick up & crew cab trucks, sewer trucks, tractors, mowers, sprayers, chainsaws, gas powered trimmers, UTV, ATV, snowmobiles, tractors, grader, tandem truck, trailers).
  • Experience in the operation of light and heavy equipment (light pick up & crew cab trucks, sewer trucks, tractors, mowers, sprayers, chainsaws, gas powered trimmers, UTV, ATV, snowmobiles, grader, tandem truck, trailers).
  • Experience in performing the maintenance and operations of facilities and grounds.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively under minimal supervision.
  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Experience with cost estimates and inventory.

Desired:

  • Experience in welding and fabricating with steel and other metals.
  • Knowledge of Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health Act and Regulations.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

  • Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5F driver's licence and be willing and able to acquire and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 3 driver's licence with air brake endorsement within one (1) year of employment start date.

  • Must be physically able to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position which may require some moderate and heavy lifting, working in cramped conditions, working indoors and outdoors, bending, reaching and standing for long periods of time.

  • Must be willing and able to work with paints, solvents and chemicals as/when required.

  • Must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment as/when required.

  • Must be ready, willing and able to work extended hours and/or be called out evenings/weekends/statutory holidays as well as work in other outlying areas in the Region.
