About the role

Join Beacon Community Services as a temporary part-time Facilities Maintenance Assistant and help keep our spaces clean, welcoming, and safe. This hands-on position supports our Maintenance team by completing light-duty tasks such as painting, weeding, cleaning, and general upkeep of Beacon facilities across the CRD. Days/Hours of Work: 20-30 hours per week, hours flexible based on operational needs

Status: Temporary part-time until September 12th, 2025

Closing Date: Applications will be accepted until the position is filled

Location: The location of work may vary between sites in Victoria, Saanich, Brentwood Bay, Sidney, and Saanichton

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Facilities & Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Assistant helps maintain the cleanliness and appearance of Beacon’s properties through basic facility and grounds upkeep. This role supports the broader Maintenance team and ensures our sites remain functional, tidy, and visually appealing to staff, clients, and community members.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform general outdoor tasks such as weeding, sweeping, raking, and debris removal
  • Assist with light painting (interior and exterior) and touch-ups as directed
  • Pressure wash exterior surfaces and walkways as required
  • Clean and maintain outdoor areas including parking lots, walkways, and entranceways
  • Assist with indoor light cleaning tasks such as wiping surfaces, tidying shared spaces, and organizing storage areas
  • Set up or move furniture and equipment as needed
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of tools and materials used
  • Carry out assigned tasks independently, following direction provided by the Facilities & Maintenance Manager
  • Notify the Maintenance team of any facility issues observed during work
  • Other relevant duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • No formal experience required—training provided
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and follow direction
  • Willingness to perform physically active work in varying weather conditions
  • Pride in quality, detail, and completing tasks to a high standard
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and reliable transportation required

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Basic skills such as using hand tools, paintbrushes, and cleaning equipment
  • Comfortable working outdoors and performing physically demanding tasks
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50lbs
  • Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated
  • Positive attitude and a strong sense of responsibility
  • Ability to maintain a respectful and professional demeanor with staff and the public
  • Understanding of basic safety practices and willingness to follow WorkSafeBC standards
