Our team is expanding and looking to hire a Health and Safety Specialist . We are looking for a dynamic and driven candidate interested in joining a fast-growing global company in the automotive sector.
The Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining workplace health and safety programs within an automotive manufacturing facility. This role ensures compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) , relevant regulations, and company safety standards to promote a safe, healthy, and compliant work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies, procedures, and programs aligned with Ontario’s OHSA and company requirements.
- Conduct regular workplace inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Lead incident investigations, identify root causes, and implement corrective/preventive actions.
- Monitor and report key safety metrics (incidents, near misses, training compliance, etc.).
- Deliver safety orientations and training programs for new hires, contractors, and employees.
- Participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings and maintain required documentation.
- Collaborate with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to ensure safe equipment design, ergonomics, and work procedures.
- Support emergency response planning and drills (fire, chemical spill, first aid, etc.).
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, standards (CSA, WSIB, ISO 45001), and industry best practices.
- Promote a culture of safety awareness and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
To be a qualified candidate, you must meet the following :
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation or working toward it (an asset).
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably in automotive or industrial manufacturing.
- Strong knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and Ontario Regulations for Industrial Establishments
- Certified in First Aid with AED is a must have
Key To Being Successful In This Role
- Experience conducting risk assessments, safety audits, and root cause analysis.
- Proficiency with MS Office and safety management systems (SMS or EHS software).
- Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to influence and work effectively with cross-functional teams.
Work Environment
- Automotive manufacturing facility (stamping, welding, assembly, or paint).
- Exposure to industrial noise, machinery, and production floor environments.
- May require flexible hours to support multiple shifts or emergency response.
