Working for the Department of Emergency Medicine

The Department of Emergency Medicine’s mission is to optimize and advance the provision of emergency medical care through excellence in education, research, and community service.

We offer training for Emergency Medicine trainees through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada accredited program (5 years) and the College of Family Physicians of Canada (1 extra year of training after completion of a Family Medicine residency). We also offer clinical experience to medical students and residents from other training programs during their mandatory emergency medicine rotations.

Knowledge synthesis and translation activities have provided a platform from which to exchange valuable information that has been used to improve the quality of care delivered to patients in the ED in Alberta, nationally, and internationally.

Position Summary

The Inner City Health and Wellness Program (ICHWP), located at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, focuses on research and knowledge mobilization activities that promote patient-centred care for people who use drugs and those experiencing health and social inequities (e.g., a lack of safe housing, poverty). ICHWP conducts applied health services research using a variety of methodologies including patient outcome evaluations, survey studies, quantitative studies, chart reviews, process evaluations, focused ethnographies and other qualitative methods, and policy analyses.
