Primary Purpose of Position:

The Structural Engineering Co-op will gain knowledge and practical experience in the Structural Engineering and Demolition career field. The student will be responsible for assisting in surveying, preparing, and reviewing technical documents and drawings and inspecting various projects. The student must have a general understanding of physical sciences, mathematics, hydraulics, strengths of different building materials and engineering geology and surveying.

Job Duties

  • Work with other senior, intermediate, and/or junior engineers collaboratively

  • Attend coordination meetings with design team

  • Ensure proper coordination of documents with the other design disciplines

  • Perform engineering assignments including assisting in the drafting and design of structural systems and components

  • Provide marked up sketches and update drawings as required; back-check drawings for quality control

  • Assist in investigations of existing buildings or structures and prepare reports as required

  • Review shop drawings during construction, visit construction sites to review general conformance of structural designs, and prepare field observation reports to address construction progress and deficiencies

Position Requirements

Working towards a post-secondary degree in Structural/Civil Engineering
Basic AutoCAD/Revit experience required
Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and email required
Sound communication skills (oral and written)
Ability to work in a complex and fast-paced team environment
Quick learner, highly organized
Excellent problem-solving skills

  • Travel to other GTA sites may be required. Reliable vehicle access is required
