Position Overview

The Project Safety Coordinator coordinate health and safety standards on a large-scale construction site involving building, utility, and process equipment installations. They will work to ensure compliance with Ontario safety regulations, company policies, and client requirements. The coordinator will establish safety systems that cascade through the cross-functional team, creating a layered safety strategy that engages all team members at every level. They will implement safety programs, monitor site activities, and proactively address hazards to maintain a safe work environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific safety programs and procedures.

  • Establish layered safety systems that integrate with project workflows and engage all stakeholders—from field crews to management—in proactive hazard control.

  • Monitor daily construction activities to ensure compliance with regulator and company standards.

  • Conduct hazard assessments and recommend corrective actions.

  • Lead safety orientations, toolbox talks, and training sessions for contractors and staff.

  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and prepare detailed reports with corrective measures.

  • Maintain accurate safety documentation, including permits, inspection logs, and compliance records.

  • Collaborate with construction manager, contractors, and equipment suppliers to integrate safety into all phases of construction.

  • Ensure proper use of PPE and enforce site safety rules.

  • Coordinate emergency response plans and drills.

  • Support commissioning and start-up activities by verifying safety processes

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in construction safety coordination or related role.

  • Strong knowledge of Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and construction regulations.

  • Familiarity with construction means and methods for building, utilities, and equipment installations.

  • Valid safety certifications preferred.

  • Ability to lead safety meetings and communicate effectively with diverse teams.

  • Proficient in hazard identification, risk assessment, and incident investigation.

  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.

  • Ability to demonstrate effective teamwork, maintain a professional demeanor, and foster positive relationships inside and outside the team
