The Quality and Continuous Improvement Coordinator will be overall responsible for the following responsibilities:
Quality:
Ensure quality standards are maintained and quality initiatives/improvements are ongoing and effective throughout the Walkerton facility. Supervise, support and train quality testers in Walkerton. Monitor, control and maintain all required processes/procedures and documentation relevant to the Quality dept. With a direct reporting relationship to the Plant Manager - Walkerton, the position also has dotted line responsibility to the North American Quality Manager, Director of Quality and the Corporate Test Engineering Manager.
Continuous Improvement:
Manage, promote and lead the on-site Walkerton Transform & Solutions continuous improvement programs. This includes the development of teams, training and implementation of continuous improvement opportunities brought forth by the transform solutions program. In addition, you will provide QA & manufacturing support on various production process tasks and projects. This may include data collection, time studies, QA testing etc.
Quality Management Systems (QMS):
- Provide PPAP, survey responses, audit actions, corrective action responses, returned materials (RM) failures analysis/summaries to customers as necessary.
- Develop monitoring systems for continual improvement of the QMS and report to Management Team of progress.
- Provides input to the long-term planning process.
- Write, revise and manage Standard Practice Instructions (SPI’s) as required.
- Know/understand and comply with the HPS Quality Policy.
- Ensure that Internal Audits are conducted in a manner to support the overall QMS.
- Provide documentation to Operations to enable a fair review of the overall QMS.
- Review the Quality Manual, Quality Policy, Risk Matrix and Interested Parties Matrix and comment on changes as necessary
- Maintain the QMS in accordance with ISO 9001
HPS - Walkerton Continuous Improvement Lead:

On site Transform (Continuous Improvement program) team leader for HPS Walkerton
-
Lead & guide the implementation of continuous improvement opportunities in line with company metrics
-
Facilitate the Transform program in the development and selection of teams and their projects
-
Coordinate/support events plant wide and update status of activities through supporting Transform Communication team initiatives, internal Sharepoint, plant communication boards and monthly plant meetings
-
Assist leaders in sustaining improvements in their respectful areas of responsibilities regarding implemented Transform projects and other continuous improvement initiatives
-
Assist when required in the development and production of HPS training materials.
Walkerton Testing
- Monitor, control and record any conditions that may influence the validity of test results.
- Ensure the requirements for testing equipment are met – handling, transport, storage, use, calibration, verification and planned maintenance records are kept up to date.
- Ensure all tests are performed on all products specified in SPI’s, engineering or customer requests.
- Ensure all testing methods, procedures and supporting documentation relevant to test lab activities are up to date and readily available to personnel.
- Control of documents in all test areas such as records, procedures, visual aids, equipment manuals etc.
- Provide technical support to test personnel.
- Analyze statistical information in databases and from test results and provide feedback to Manufacturing and Engineering departments, assist them in problem solving of identified issues.
- Identify and promote test system improvements including equipment and data recording.
- Ensure safety guidelines, processes and procedures are documented and followed.
- Ensure production has adequate and effective QA Testers.
- Identify and resolve technical training needs and ensure QA testers are fully trained and competent in all aspects of their duties.
- Support, maintain and implement Electrical Testing Core Competency program, this can be with Quality, but it can also be dual responsibility with MEng.
HPS - Transform Walkerton Solutions Lead:
- On site Solutions Team Leader for HPS Walkerton
- Lead & guide the implementation of the solutions add-on program which promotes a recognition process to help generate employee driven continuous improvement “Solutions”
- Provide necessary training and support to all levels including new employees to ensure the success of the Solutions program within the Walkerton facility
- Coordinate/support events plant wide and update status of activities through supporting Transform Communications team initiatives, internal sharepoint, plant communication boards and monthly plant meetings
- Lead the delivery of all Solutions related training modules to new employees
- Assist leaders in sustaining improvements in their respectful areas of responsibilities regarding implemented Solutions submissions and other continuous improvement initiatives.
Quality
- Coordinates Continuous Improvement initiatives as required.
- Involvement in Advanced Product Quality Planning and new product development.
- Initiate Corrective Action Requests and utilize appropriate problem-solving approaches.
- Support the RMA process related to Walkerton built product.
- Work with Supply Chain on supplier issues as required.
- Initiate and/or assemble customer requested documentation.
- Review/approve new suppliers.
Transform - Plant Manufacturing Support
- Work toward a complete understanding of all equipment and processes in the plant
- Assist process specialist and production departments with production on first off orders or prototypes to ensure understanding of design & MIP
- Work with the process specialist in assisting production with any MIP or BOM discrepancies
- Support process specialist and operations supervisor when requested in reviewing labor standards & BOM’s to ensure they are complete & accurate
- When requested by the process specialist or Plant Manager review manufacturing processes to determine if improvements can or should be made 20%
Auditing
- Develop the Internal Auditing Schedule based on previous audit results and the status and importance of the areas being audited.
- Manage Walkerton Internal Audit Processes.
- In conjunction with the Supply Chain conduct supplier audits based on evaluation criteria.
- Manage the external quality audits (customers, third party, registrars, and regulatory agencies)
Reporting
- Prepare, issue and analyze weekly and monthly quality reports including DPMO, Cost of Quality, and First Pass.
- Review and maintain process monitoring records (gel time, viscosity, paint viscosity, oven programs)
- Issue Quality Alerts
- Prepare Semi-Annual Management Review summaries and meeting minutes.
- Manage Corrective Action Reporting systems.
- Issue and control Certificates of Compliance as back up.
- Ensure that accurate records are kept.
- Support and monitor Customer Concession Request system. 10%
Other
- Perform various other duties and activities as assigned.
- Supporting continuous improvement goals, Transform initiatives and lean implementation.
- Ensure documentation on shop floor is adding value (i.e. Checklists, process monitoring sheets)
- Support production teams with root cause determination and corrective action development/implementation.
- Develop and maintain systems for compliance.
- Mentor the Quality group to work with Engineering and Production for solutions that arise daily.
- Foster a positive culture within the quality team.
Transform - Other Project Support
Assist on other Walkerton projects as requested.
Supervisory
- Train, develop and manage performance of reporting staff
- Work closely with Mfg. Engineer to resolve issues around product quality, customer concerns and training.
- Assign testers for overtime shifts as required. 10%
Educational Requirements:
A Bachelors' degree or college diploma in Quality Management, Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline.
Experience:
- 2 - 5 years working in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience conducting QA audits and implementing and verifying corrective actions.
- Experience applying a range of continuous improvement tools and techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and influence a diverse range of stakeholders to execute improvement projects.
Specialized Knowledge:

Knowledge and or experience with transformers, including testing is an asset.

Experience in change management & project leadership an asset.
