About the role

Position Summary The Employee Health Specialist – Occupational Therapist works collaboratively with the Occupational Health & Safety Team, Managers, Leadership and Workers at Quinte Health to provide a safe and healthy work environment. The Employee Health Specialist will utilize their skills to support the organization in safe Return to Work and Better at Work Programs.

Required

  • University bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy
  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
  • Experience working in Occupational Health setting;
  • Program development skills;
  • Demonstrated superior written and verbal communication skills;
  • Consultation skills;
  • Interpretative and investigative skills;
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrated organizational skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with clients, public and supervisor

Duties

  • Perform Physical Demands Analysis, Cognitive Demands Analysis, Office Workstation assessments, and other ergonomic assessments through job shadowing, observation and other necessary methods in collaboration with the Safety Consultant
  • Provide detailed written reports to department managers documenting assessment techniques, findings, recommendations, etc.
  • Provide body mechanics education (patient handling, material handling, etc.) via both on-the-job and classroom training in collaboration with the Safety Consultant
  • Provide guidance and case consultation on employee disability cases included WSIB cases.
  • Take the lead or support return to work programs/ better at work programs in cooperation with the WSIB Case Manager and Occupational Health Team as needed:
  • Identify modified work duties available to accommodate injured employees
  • Design and implement graduated work hardening and/or work conditioning programs
  • Provide mental health support to employees with occupational and non occupational illnesses where necessary
  • Provide functional exercises for employees for both return to work purposes as well as proactively as part of the prevention of MSDs
  • Recommend/identify tools, equipment and products for implementation to increase work efficiency, reduce the risk of MSDs, and aid in the return to work process
  • Support department managers in the identification and selection of new equipment purchases for capital budget
  • Work collectively with other Occupational Health & Safety team workers, managers, directors, and other stakeholders in Quinte Health
  • Other duties as deemed necessary for the function of the organization

Quinte Health provides a wide range of high quality health care services to 160,000 people living in the 7000 square kilometre region of Prince Edward and Hastings Counties and the southeast portion of Northumberland County.
