About The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly skilled Payroll & Benefits Specialist who is passionate about payroll accuracy, HR technology, and continuous improvement. Reporting to the Human Resources leadership team, this individual will play a critical role in supporting payroll and benefits administration across a diverse, multi-site workforce.
The successful candidate will also serve as a key internal resource for our UKG Pro and UKG Workforce Management (WFM) environment, helping optimize processes, ensure compliance, and enhance the employee experience.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the full payroll cycle accurately and efficiently while ensuring compliance with established deadlines. Administer employee benefits programs, including group insurance, retirement plans, employee assistance programs, and related initiatives. Process employee onboarding, terminations, status changes, and benefits updates. Review, validate, and process data related to hours worked, absences, leave requests, premiums, and other compensation elements. Ensure the accuracy of payroll deductions, taxable benefits, and statutory withholdings. Prepare and submit payroll remittances, tax filings, year-end reporting, and government-required documentation. Participate in payroll reconciliations, accounting entries, and internal or external audits. Serve as a subject matter expert for managers and employees regarding payroll and benefits inquiries. Contribute to the continuous improvement of payroll processes and HR systems. Support the configuration, maintenance, and optimization of UKG Pro and UKG Workforce Management (WFM). Ensure compliance with all applicable payroll legislation, regulations, and best practices. Maintain the highest level of confidentiality and data integrity.
What You'll Bring
Strong expertise with UKG Pro and UKG Workforce Management (WFM). Fully bilingual in French and English, both written and spoken: essential because we have employees in Quebec and in English-speaking provinces/states. Strong understanding of the complete payroll lifecycle, including: regular earnings; overtime calculations; vacation accruals and employee banks; taxable benefits; statutory deductions; government remittances; payroll reconciliations and accounting entries. Experience supporting payroll operations in a multi-site, multi-property, or multi-location environment. Experience working within a unionized workforce is highly desirable. Knowledge of payroll legislation in Quebec and other Canadian provinces. Exposure to U.S. payroll operations is considered a significant asset. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong customer service mindset and ability to build relationships with internal stakeholders. Qualifications
College diploma or university degree in Administration, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field. Payroll certification (National Payroll Institute or equivalent) — considered an asset. Minimum of three (3) years of progressive payroll experience, including full-cycle payroll administration. Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation or equivalent certification is considered an asset. Knowledge of payroll accounting principles and general ledger reconciliations. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
