####Summary of Responsibilities
ABOUT CAMP POTLATCH
Camp Potlatch, a wilderness Summer Camp and Outdoor Centre located on 133 acres along the picturesque shores of Howe Sound, is operated by BGC South Coast BC, which provides a wide range of social development and recreational services to children, youth, and families in the Lower Mainland.
Camp Potlatch is a rustic wilderness site that provides a natural gateway into the rugged landscape of British Columbia’s South Coast. Sandy beaches and unspoiled hiking territory create an idyllic environment to work, explore and play! Even though it is less than an hour from Vancouver, the camp is truly isolated in pristine wilderness and is only accessible by boat. Wildlife sightings include – but are not limited to – whales, seals, porpoises, bears, and bald eagles!Adventure starts here!
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITILIES
Reporting to the Manager, the Coordinator will be part of the leadership team at Camp Potlatch, focusing primarily on the operation of the Summer Camp programs, and assisting with the operations and general coverage of the Outdoor Centre programs during the spring and fall seasons.
The Coordinator will work full-time from November to April with a dedicated workspace in Vancouver and will be based at Camp Potlatch site from May to October while programs are being delivered.

JOB DUTIES
- Works with the Manager in long term planning and implementing of all aspects of the Summer Camp including:
- on-site camping programs (e.g., swimming, canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing) and multi-day, land, and water-based off-site out-trips
- kitchen functions at Camp, including support for the Cook
- incident response and reporting
- maintenance of accurate financial and program records
- Supports the Manager in the oversight of the day-to-day functioning of Summer Camp, including supervision of 50 staff and 135 campers (aged 6-17) during each session.
- Builds relationship with campers, Camp Leaders, and support staff.
- Assists in the recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluation of staff and volunteers.
- Supports the Manager in ensuring the highest degree of health and safety standards in relation to camper care, program delivery, food services, facility maintenance, and health/medical services.
- Supports the Manager in ensuring that all facilities, equipment, and programs are managed in accordance with BGC expectations, BC Camping Association standards, and legislative requirements.
- As directed by the Manager, coordinates the preparation of Camp promotion and registration materials, including working with the Registrar’s Office.
- Assists the Manager with caretaking responsibilities in the absence of the Camp Caretaker.
- Acts on behalf of the Manager as needed (e.g.: Manager off-site).
####Requirements
- Clear Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector).
- An undergraduate degree or diploma, or a minimum of 3 years experience working in a leadership role at an accredited summer camp or other large child and youth-serving recreation sector program.
- Industry-recognized certifications and/or equivalent experience in kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing, and lifeguarding.
- Experience supervising, training, and evaluating staff and volunteers.
- Demonstrated teamwork, leadership, and supervisory skills with the ability to resolve issues/conflict.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Computer and data management experience, with working knowledge of MS Office.
- Strong organizational, problem solving, and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently under pressure and remain focused within a constantly changing work environment.
- Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends, as well as living on site for the duration of the Camp program (May – October).
- Specialized training and certifications (to be obtained within 6 months of hire, paid by BGC) include Occupational First Aid Level III, Class 4 driver’s license, Small Vessel Operator Proficiency and Small Water Systems Operator.

This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week) salary position ($55,575 start), with group benefits at six months, pension after one year, three weeks paid vacation leave in first year, one week Camp Potlatch Post Season Leave, paid sick and personal leave, paid birthday off and up to 5 days statutory holiday substitution days per year to celebrate/recognize religious, cultural, and/or personal days that are important to the employee where those days are not currently recognized as statutory holidays in BC/Canada).
