Halifax, NS Accounting and Financial Student Full-time $21 - $22 / hour
Ambassatours Gray Line is looking for a motivated and detail oriented Finance & Accounting Assistant (Co-op) to join our Finance team in Halifax. This is a hands on opportunity for a student interested in accounting, finance, or business to gain practical experience while supporting a fast paced tourism company known for creating unforgettable experiences across Atlantic Canada.
Working alongside our finance professionals, you'll gain exposure to real world financial operations from accounts payable and receivable to reporting and analysis while helping ensure the accuracy and integrity of our financial records.
What you'll do
Responsibilities
As a Finance & Accounting Assistant, you will support the team with daily accounting operations and financial processes, including:
Accounts Payable & Vendor Management
- Process and code invoices while maintaining organized vendor records
- Identify discrepancies in pricing or items and work with vendors to resolve issues
- Track, process, and reconcile employee expense and credit card reports
Accounts Receivable & Banking
- Perform bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy of financial records
- Prepare and issue monthly invoices to customers and partners
- Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding balances
Financial Analysis & Team Support
- Prepare supporting documentation and reports for internal departments
- Use Microsoft Excel and accounting software to assist with data analysis and financial reporting
- Assist with beverage inventory counts on vessels when required
- Support the finance team with additional accounting tasks and special projects
What We're Looking For
- A student currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Comfort working with Microsoft Excel and financial data
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Strong communication skills and a proactive attitude
- Interest in gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic business environment
What you'll need
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in, or recently completed, a post-secondary program in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field (candidates do not need to be enrolled in a formal co-op program to apply)
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Comfortable working with Microsoft Excel, including basic formulas and spreadsheets
- Ability to work with numbers and analyze financial information accurately
- Strong time-management skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating with team members
- Previous experience with accounting software (such as QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) is considered an asset
- Previous administrative, accounting, or office experience is an asset but not required
