The Opportunity:

We’re looking for three (3) interns to join our Artificial Intelligence (AI) team for a 4-month opportunity. The AI team at Vancity focuses on identifying, validating, and scaling responsible AI and GenAI use cases that create real member and business value. We operate at the intersection of strategy, data, and engineering, turning emerging AI capabilities into practical solutions. These roles will report into the AI Manager or Data Science Manager, with occasional guidance from senior technical contributors and project managers. These roles will collaborate closely with Senior Engineers, Managers, and Senior Managers, learning how AI moves from idea to experiment to deployment in an enterprise environment.

A typical day would involve:

  • Researching and assessing AI use case feasibility across Machine Learning and Generative AI (technical viability, data readiness, and value potential)
  • Exploring, cleaning, and transforming data to support proof of concept (PoC) experiments
  • Building and experimenting with ML and GenAI models (e.g., prompt engineering, embeddings, fine‑tuning, classical ML)
  • Participating in scrum ceremonies (stand‑ups, sprint planning, demos) alongside managers and senior engineers
  • Supporting model deployment pipelines using Azure and Databricks, including CI/CD concepts and MLOps best practices
  • Documenting findings, tradeoffs, and recommendations to support leadership decision-making

You have:

  • Current enrollment in an undergraduate or grad program within an applicable field and eligible for co-op/internship opportunities (i.e. Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Data Engineering, Mathematics)
  • Solid understanding of Machine Learning fundamentals (e.g., supervised/unsupervised learning, evaluation concepts)
  • Familiarity with Generative AI concepts (LLMs, prompt engineering, embeddings, RAG, etc.)
  • Basic experience with Python and data manipulation (e.g., pandas, SQL, notebooks)
  • Interest in cloud-based AI deployment and production systems
  • A willingness to work in a highly flexible environment with multiple competing priorities.

Bonus points, if you have:

  • Experience or coursework with Azure (Azure ML, Azure AI Studio / Foundry, Azure DevOps)
  • Familiarity with Databricks, Spark, or data engineering pipelines
  • Exposure to CI/CD, MLOps, or model deployment workflows
  • Experience working with APIs, containers, or cloud infrastructure
  • Prior internships, hackathons, or personal AI projects
  • Familiarity with power Automate and Power Apps.

What You’ll Earn:

This role offers a pay range of $27.85/hr.
