Job Description

Position: Heavy Equipment Operator (Day or Night Shift, 1 Year Term-Full Time)

Starting Range: $30.22 (Pending Education & Experience)

Saturday to Sunday - 40 hours per week

Garden River First Nation, also known as Ketegauneebee is located near Sult Ste. Marie, Ontario. The community is part of the Ojibwa band and is recognized for its cultural heritage. Created in 1850 with the signing of the Robinson-Treaty, GRFN administers a variety of programs and services. Various department managers oversee their individual programs, and overall administrative duties are overseen by a Chief Administrative Officer who is directly responsible to the Council who in turn, are responsible to the membership.

Garden River First Nation is looking for a skilled and motivated Heavy Equipment Operator to join the Garden River Aggregates team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of heavy equipment used in aggregate production, material handling, snow removal, and site maintenance activities. Working in a dynamic outdoor environment, the Heavy Equipment Operator will contribute to the efficient operation of Garden River Aggregates while supporting the Mission, Vision, and Values of Garden River First Nation. What You Will Do

Perform daily equipment inspections and ensure fluids are checked and maintained. Safely operate heavy equipment for aggregate production and material handling. Load trucks, hoppers, and other machinery with aggregates. Transport and move aggregate materials throughout the worksite. Assist with gravel crushing operations and maintain clear work areas around the crushing plant. Perform routine equipment maintenance, including greasing and minor component replacement. Report equipment malfunctions and maintenance requirements promptly. Conduct snow removal operations, including roadways, cul-de-sacs, bus turnarounds, work sites, and driveway entrances. Maintain compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety legislation, policies, and procedures. Complete all required documentation, safety training, and other assigned duties.

Required Skills

What you can bring to the role:

Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, understanding and experience of First Nation culture, values, and traditions. Valid Driver's Licence; DZ Licence is considered an asset. Minimum two (2) years of related experience operating heavy equipment. Computer skills (Microsoft Office, Email, Internet) are considered an asset. Experience in aggregate operations, construction, snow removal, sanding, or gravel pit operations. Knowledge of heavy equipment operation, maintenance, and safety practices. Ability to lift to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including rain, snow, and heat. Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment. Clear CPIC required as a condition of employment (at Applicant’s Expense) Must be willing to travel
