ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
This role reports to the Instructor.
SUMMARY
Classroom Tutor in Math at a Learning Centre for Students enrolled in Upgrading courses at the Phoenix Drug & Alcohol Recovery & Education Society
As a Classroom Tutor, you will assist faculty and work with students experiencing mental health and addictions related challenges, who are taking a math upgrading class through the Centre.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist faculty with the implementation of small-group and individual instruction that has been planned by the course instructor
- Assist with class-wide monitoring of student work (small-group or individual work) identified and planned by faculty
- Tutor students collaboratively (e.g. eliciting answers through questions; acknowledging success by stating specific strengths)
- Promote independence in students
- Assist with the collection of data on student performance and progress based on data collection systems provided by faculty
- Facilitate peer interactions based on guidance from faculty
- Assist with photocopying, filing and overall organization of classroom materials as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
- Criminal background check (working with vulnerable adults)
- Experience working as a tutor preferred
- Willingness to learn and assist in implementing a variety of learning strategies
- Able to relate to students and work with people from diverse backgrounds
- Able to work as part of a team
- Able to show initiative
- Proficient in fundamental numeracy to an advanced high school level (ie. high school / first year university)

Anticipated hourly pay rate: $27 per hour plus 4% in lieu of vacation
