Hiring Manager: Interim AVP Development Comms & Fundraising

Primary Location: Oshawa (Hybrid work environment), (with flexibility to transition to/work at other DCHC sites as required).

Organization

Durham Community Health Centre (DCHC) is a registered, charitable organization that provides integrated, accessible, and equitable community-based primary care, wellness services, and health education to Durham community members who face multiple barriers to their health and well-being.

DCHC also provides equity-based programs and services that focus on priority populations such as Indigenous, Black, the 2SLGBTQI Community, Newcomers to Canada, Seniors, and Unattached patients (i.e., those without a family doctor), to name a few. DCHC ensures Durham community members receive not only sick care, but preventive care as well.

At DCHC, we are a team-based interprofessional group of staff including physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, counselors, dietitians, outreach workers, medical secretaries, and other administrative staff. We always place every client at the centre of our approach to care, based on their needs. We address these needs through integrated clinical and wellness care and health education.

Position Overview

The Community Engagement Lead plays a critical role in supporting the execution of DCHC’s annual fundraising programs. This position requires a strategic, detail-oriented professional who can manage multiple projects, engage donors and community partners, and contribute to the overall success of DCHC’s philanthropic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities****Fund Development & Donor Engagement

  • Support the execution of DCHC’s fundraising programs in collaboration with the Manager, Philanthropy & Partnerships.
  • Lead and manage third-party fundraising initiatives and the tribute giving portfolio (gifts in honor/memory of donors).
  • Plan and coordinate key fundraising events, including the Annual Golf Tournament and support with Visions & Victories (formerly AGM).
  • Develop and implement donor engagement strategies to enhance relationships with individual and corporate donors.
  • Oversee data management in Raiser’s Edge NXT, ensuring accurate donor records, tax receipting, and reporting.
  • Assist in the creation of fundraising materials, donor reports, and stewardship communications.

Knowledge Mobilization & Learning Hub

  • Lead the development of partnerships with academic institutions and community organizations to support knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Identify and develop learning opportunities aligned with the needs of equity-based populations served by DCHC.
  • Oversee the creation and delivery of health education programs, ensuring a mix of in-house, partner-led, and third-party courses.
  • Seek strategic funding opportunities to sustain and grow the Learning Hub initiative.

Corporate Health & Wellness Program

  • Develop and implement a corporate engagement strategy to align DCHC’s health and wellness services with workplace wellness initiatives.
  • Identify partnership opportunities with corporations/employers to enhance employee health and well-being in Durham Region.
  • Ensure the program supports employees from equity-based communities by connecting them with relevant health services.
  • Work collaboratively with the Development team to align corporate partnerships with DCHC’s fundraising goals and revenue generation strategies.
  • Explore funding opportunities to ensure long-term program sustainability.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Nonprofit Management, Fundraising, Public Health, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • A Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) designation or coursework in fundraising would be considered an asset.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience in fundraising, community engagement, or philanthropy will be considered.
  • Minimum one year of experience, preferably in community health.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and donor database management (Raiser’s Edge NXT preferred).
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism and confidentiality regarding donor data, including possible program impact.
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement across health and social service sectors.
  • Strong project management skills, including workflow coordination, budget management, and event planning.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism.

Working Conditions & Requirements

  • Regular engagement with the public, colleagues, and community partners.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends based on operational needs.
  • Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination (accommodations considered based on human rights grounds).
  • Valid G-class driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Clearance.
