THE POSITION
Join Keyera’s Environment & Regulatory team and play a pivotal role in shaping environmental performance across our Southern G&P facilities, located in the Drayton Valley and Rocky Mountain House areas of operations. As the Environment Advisor , you’ll be the boots-on-the-ground expert, driving environmental excellence and regulatory compliance at four key facilities and their associated field sites. Reporting into the Manager of Environment Operations, this is a dynamic, field-focused role where your technical expertise and collaborative spirit will directly support safe, sustainable operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
You’ll be the go-to environmental resource for the operations teams, helping to embed environmental best practices into day-to-day activities and long-term planning. Your responsibilities will include:
- Operational Support: Partner with facility operations and management teams to provide environmental guidance on routine activities and special projects.
- Program Execution: Lead the implementation of environmental programs (soil/groundwater/air monitoring, spill remediation), including budgeting, scheduling, and quality control.
- Regulatory Engagement: Represent Keyera in regulatory applications, licensing processes, and construction planning.
- Industry Collaboration: Participate in regional industry association committees to stay ahead of emerging trends and share best practices.
- Compliance Oversight: Ensure timely and accurate reporting to the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER), including monthly and annual monitoring.
- Technical Expertise: Provide input on air emissions, reclamation, remediation, and project management initiatives.
- Liability Management: Contribute to multi-year, multi-site environmental liability reduction strategies.
- Emergency Response: Support environmental aspects of emergency response planning and execution.
- Incident Management: Respond to environmental incidents, lead investigations, and drive continuous improvement through follow-up actions.
- Coordination & Leadership: Work closely with facility reps, consultants, and internal teams to manage projects, review reports, and oversee authorization and payment processes.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for a proactive, field-savvy professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and brings a strong technical foundation. Ideal candidates will have:
- A degree in Environmental Science or a related discipline (other relevant education/experience combinations will be considered).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the energy industry, with a focus on facilities and/or pipelines.
- Experience with facility start-ups or turnarounds is a strong asset.
- Strong computer skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities across field and corporate teams.
- Proven ability to work effectively with operations and maintenance personnel.
- Solid understanding of safety procedures, work planning, and business practices.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- A valid driver's license and ability to provide a 5-year standard driver abstract (clean driver's abstract).
