About the role

Dawson Group is looking for a collaborative Senior Accountant who will be the direct liaison between the Finance and Operations teams.

In this role you will be a valued member of the Dawson Group, working in a permanent, full-time position of Senior Accountant, reporting to the Director of Finance. The seasonality of the business will require you to understand the cycles and plan accordingly. This role will be responsible for performing full cycle accounting and month-end tasks for Dawson Road Maintenance, a business within the Dawson Group. This includes preparation of required accounting entries, account reconciliations, monthly financial statement preparation, completion of budgets, forecasts and related variance analysis. Your base location will be in Kamloops, B.C.; however, the Dawson Group embraces distributed work, meaning the successful candidate will have the flexibility to work from home.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

  • Act as the primary financial contact for the operations team, including monthly financial reviews and supporting operational goals
  • Analyze job margins, contracts, change orders, billings, job costs, and inventory
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
  • Manage full cycle accounting, including month-end close, journal entries, financial statements, and reconciliations (GL, bank, and inter-company)
  • Ensure accurate revenue recognition and resolve issues with AP and other departments
  • Support annual audits and contribute to ERP conversion and process improvements (asset)
  • Prepare ad hoc financial reports and analysis as needed

You will receive mentorship, guidance and opportunities to enhance your finance and accounting skills in a diversified, fast-paced construction environment. You will work with other highly experienced professionals and be part of a team dedicated to providing value added services to all operations groups and building on a track record of success.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor of Business Degree or Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting

  • Minimum 4 years of accounting experience

  • CPA preferred; candidates in the final stages of their CPA may be considered

  • Exceptional Excel Skills including proficient use of pivot tables and formulas

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Industry experience in construction/manufacturing would be an asset
