Facilitator – “whatever” Program

(Casual, Non-Union)

Located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Squamish Nation, Tsleil-Waututh Nation and Musqueam Nation, West Vancouver is a vibrant community on the North Shore and home to parks, beaches, and sports, recreation and arts amenities. Responsibilities

The Community Services Department has an opening for a Facilitator for the “Whatever” Program, a drop-in program for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth and their allies in grades 8 to 12 that offers a supportive, caring environment to hang out and be heard. Reporting to the Youth Services Program Coordinator, the “Whatever” Program Facilitator is responsible for:

facilitating a variety of social and recreational activities and events for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth, primarily in a drop-in setting; ensuring the meaningful involvement of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth in the development, planning and execution of the various programs and events; supporting the functioning of the “Whatever” Youth Committee (setting dates, preparing agendas, distributing minutes, meeting reminders, etc.); promoting the “Whatever” Program in community; opening and closing youth facilities and enforcing rules and regulations; monitoring youth volunteers, including overseeing a youth volunteer-run concession program and handling low value cash transactions; monitoring and reporting on facility and equipment safety, security and maintenance requirements; reading and preparing routine reports and providing drop-in statistics; working collaboratively with all Youth Services staff and attending staff meetings and in-services; and, performing other related work, as required.

The preferred candidate will have completion of Grade 12, supplemented by post-secondary courses related to the work (i.e., Child and Youth Care, Recreation, etc.) plus related lived, professional and/or volunteer experience to demonstrate required skills, or an equivalent combination of training and afore-mentioned experience; and current Emergency First Aid (or better), CPR ‘C’ and AED certification.

Preferred candidates possess a strong understanding of youth's diverse needs, concerns, and psychosocial development to create and maintain safe, inclusive, and engaging spaces for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth. They communicate effectively, prioritize meaningful youth engagement, and build genuine, trusting relationships while upholding appropriate ethics and professional boundaries. They act as a positive role model, provide information and appropriate referrals, and work both independently and collaboratively within a diverse community setting.

Hours Of Work

Approximately 3 hours per week, including Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Hours and days of work can vary.

Starting Rate Of Pay

$23.00 per hour plus 4% in lieu of benefits
