The Opportunity The Senior Property Accountant will be responsible for the full cycle accounting for assigned buildings under management by Devon Properties. Key Responsibilities Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Preparation and review of monthly accounting records for a REIT and the Limited Partnerships.
  • Maintaining general ledger for the property portfolio, including: Post journal entries. Analyze general ledger and process accruals. Analyze and interpret balance sheets and income statements and provide financial/management reports as requested. Reconcile balance sheet accounts for all properties in portfolio. Prepare bank reconciliations for portfolio of properties on monthly basis. Prepare variance analysis reports on a monthly basis. Reconciliation of REIT’s intercompany balances. Review and process cash distributions.
  • Prepare payments from corporate bank accounts and manage the cash requirements of the REIT.
  • Preparation of the consolidated monthly financial statements of the REIT. This includes the preparation of accounting for complex accounting areas and the preparation of the quarter and year-end audit working papers and liaising with outside accountants and auditors.
  • Accounting supervision to ensure the accurate and efficient month-end reporting. This includes, but is not limited to the review of monthly invoice posting to ensure accuracy of costs, G/L coding, and sufficient descriptions of the invoiced services/supplies. Ensure that all balance sheet accounts reconcile to supporting subledger documentation
  • Assist with the preparation of year-end financial statements, supporting schedules, and audit documentation for external review, ensuring all year-end audit requirements are completed for the assigned portfolio.
  • Assist in the development of financial forecasts and budgets while also providing regular analysis and recommendations to the benefit of the business.
  • If required, processing the full cycle accounting for other buildings in the Devon Portfolio.

Qualifications

  • 3+ Years of prior professional full-cycle accounting experience required, preferably in real estate, legal, and/or accounting industries. Proven experience in variance analysis, budgeting, etc. is required
  • Experience with RealPage would be considered an asset
  • College diploma or University degree in business or financial management is a must.
  • A professional accounting designation (e.g., CPA) or working towards an accounting designation would be considered an asset
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of all aspects of accounts payable, receivables, bank reconciliations and financial statements is required
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office and Outlook, and very strong Excel knowledge is required. Working with Pivot Tables or Power Pivot would be an added bonus
  • Attention to detail, time-management, prioritizing, and multi-tasking skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing required.
