The purpose of the Technology Application Support Specialist position is to provide support and training services for school applications.
Main Responsibilities
- Administers and oversees the implementation of various Board-wide and Ministry programs and software, including developing focus groups, managing resources, evaluating data and making recommendations for solutions.
- Provides technical support, training and creates documentation for staff, students and external stakeholders on a variety of Board-wide software and programs.
- Assists in planning and scheduling of use of Board=s computer systems and in setting up procedures.
- Co-ordinates client support, sharing information, and training the trainers on any new initiatives, and sending service requests to client support, technical or other ICT staff.
- Compiles and transfers required Ministry of Education reports organizing and coordinating schools ensuring files are interfaced and balanced in accordance with Ministry regulations and that requirements and deadlines are met, and extracting and transferring school data to the Ministry.
- Maintains Board-wide student administrative systems applying scripts, patches and new releases to databases and/or workstations; performs upgrades and testing.
- Customizes individual school websites from standardized templates and works with Teaching & Learning to support the development and implementation of standardized classroom desktop curriculum.
- Co-ordinates the submission of student applications to the Ontario College Application Service and Ontario University Application Centre notifying schools of deadlines for transmissions of files.
- Provides multi-level line support of Board staff on all student systems and administrative software applications fixing directly or liaising with others until a problem is resolved.
- Participates in user groups and ad hoc committees to bring Ministry of Education and student administrative system information back to Board users.
- Creates following year’s school directories for secondary schools and Summer School copying, changing configurations, providing support, and updated documentation, as required.
- Co-ordinates procedures for administrative staff creating and distributing reminders regarding Ministry of Education and Board requirements assisting staff to manage year end process.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent plus 3 year College in Business Administration with a focus in computers.
- One (1) to three (3) years experience in adult training, project management, technical support and troubleshooting.
- Minimum two (2) years experience in a school environment.
Specialized Skills
- Advanced level computer skills in databases and administrative software.
- SmartBoard Certification level I & II is preferred.
- Experience supporting various computer applications and associated technologies such as ODBC compliant databases, SQL query language, HTML and Open Source is preferred.
- Valid drivers license and use of own vehicle.
- A commitment to service excellence.
Effort And Working Conditions
- office environment; moderate amounts of after duty calls; pressure to meet deadlines and travel required;
- some dealing with difficult people and interruptions; moderate visual exertion, concentration, attention to detail, lifting of equipment and keyboarding

- Works with aim to assist the system in achieving the Areas of Emphasis, including making decisions and taking actions that will positively affect student achievement and demonstrating our Character attributes
A police records check, with a Vulnerable Sector Search and Pardoned Sexual Offenders Database Search , dated within 6 months prior to the date of hire , is a requirement for employment with this Board.
