Your Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer to join our Markham office, with consideration for other Ontario locations. You will be part of the Water Resources Technical Team within Stantec’s Environmental Services Business Line, contributing to a wide range of water resources projects.
Your Key Responsibilities
This role involves working within multidisciplinary teams on baseline and impact assessments, feasibility studies, hydrologic assessments, and water quality investigations. You will manage complex scopes of work alongside hydrologists, hydrotechnical engineers, hydrogeologists, structural engineers, and directly engage with clients. Strong hydrology and hydraulics expertise is essential.
The key responsibilities for this position include:
- Lead and manage water resources projects involving hydrologic, hydraulic, and water quality components
- Oversee project budgets, staff allocation, and invoice preparation and review
- Prepare proposals, develop work plans, schedules, and budgets, and manage projects and tasks
- Author clear and comprehensive technical reports documenting modeling results, field investigations and analytical findings
- Design and supervise hydrological and water quality field investigations
- Collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams to contribute to project success
- Apply industry standards, guidelines, and regulatory frameworks consistently
- Perform primarily office‑based work involving extended computer use and data analysis
- Travel to field sites as required, including occasional overnight stays

- Proven and mentorship capabilities for junior and intermediate staff

- Proficient in technical and non‑technical communication with clients, regulators, academia, and the public

- Solid understanding of Ontario and federal water resources legislation, regulations, and guidance
- Experience with numerical hydrodynamic, hydrologic, and hydraulic modeling tools is considered an asset
- Demonstrated ability to produce high‑quality, organized, and consistent work
- Strong initiative and independent decision‑making skills
- Excellent team‑building and interpersonal communication abilities
- Technical proficiency and practical problem‑solving expertise
- Familiarity with local markets and practices is an asset
- Valid G‑class driver’s license required
Education and Experience
- Graduate degree in Engineering or Environmental Sciences with a focus on water resources and hydrology
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in consulting or regulatory environments
- Professional registration with the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) or Professional Geoscientists Ontario (PGO)
- Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
