KMC specializes in high-performance alloys and friction materials from raw materials to finished products under one roof in Orillia, Canada. Manufacturing unique heat-resistant alloys and high-nickel/chrome alloys primarily for the petrochemical industries, Kubota leads the industry in quality and advanced technology. As per customer requirements, Kubota designs and casts centrifugal pipes and static castings of fittings which are then machined, welded (Automatic, Semi-Automatic, Orbital & Manual), GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, followed by in-house NDT (RT, PT, VT), in-house DT, R&D lab, as well as hydro testing.
Summary:
Responsible for supervising the efforts of staff and initiatives for elements related to production for Kubota Materials Canada Corporation.
Major Responsibilities (but not limited to):
- Remain current on immediate, short-term and long-term production requirements
- Main point of contact for employees
- Ensure complete familiarity with the operation and safe emergency shutdown of all equipment within the department
- Model appropriate behaviour, including communication, safe work habits, wearing of PPE, and adherence to KMC policies
- Schedule activities of personnel to meet production goals required for departments across all three shifts
- Liaise with other departments as required to maintain information and production flow
- Ensure personnel are operating under the requirements of the current collective agreement
- Troubleshoot issues in production or personnel conflicts; seek assistance from the Manager, as needed
- Tour prospective employees of production areas to give a realistic job preview, prior to hire
- Ensure all staff are properly trained on any equipment, prior to use
- Participate in regular emergency evacuation/shutdown procedures, to maintain a quick response time
- Report regularly on production achievements and/or roadblocks
- Report and follow maintenance issues as they affect the safety and production area
- Conduct a thorough debrief with the incoming (next shift) Supervisor to ensure continuity of supervision
- Maintain the safety of employees as the paramount priority
- Participate in inventories as scheduled, both cycle counts and full inventory accounting
- Participate in Toolbox talks with staff and health and safety meetings
- Ensure alignment with the overall production goals and objectives
- Conduct audits for compliance, safety, production and/or quality as required to meet Kubota standards
- Support Kubota Global Identity, with the Brand and Spirit statements of Kubota Materials Canada Corporation
- Other related duties, as required
Education, Experience and Qualifications:
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a hands-on role in a manufacturing/fabrication facility
- Minimum 2 years of experience leading staff or sub-contractors in a production environment
- Commitment to lean methodology practices for process improvement
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints
- Experience leading in a unionized environment preferred
- Training courses in related Health and Safety
- First Aid & CPR certificates, or willingness to obtain
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and Google Docs
- Strong communication skills, including conflict management among staff
