Junior SCADA Specialist
Position Status: Permanent Full-Time Location: Mississauga, ON and On-Site Reporting To: Senior Project Manager, Programming

This is a full-time permanent role reporting directly to the Senior Project Manager, Programming.
Responsibilities: The Jr. SCADA Project Specialist will be responsible for supporting the execution of the SCADA projects for our various customers. Their objectives will be to ensure work is completed safely, with high quality, on time and meeting the stated project deliverables. Assignments will consist of projects within the province of Ontario with the potential of projects to be located across Canada/USA. To be successful in this role, the incumbent must be positive and cheerful, hands on, adaptable, enjoy taking on challenges, and able to cut through the small stuff to get the job done. Travel to customer sites is expected and the incumbent must be comfortable working at customer sites for varying amounts of time. Candidates will be considered based on years of experience as an automation engineer specifically in water and wastewater treatment industry. The primary responsibilities of the role will be but are not limited to: Develop PLC/HMI/SCADA applications. Design, test, and implement all aspects of industrial automation solutions. Prepare documentation packages including design documents, FAT/SAT, end-user manuals, and training manuals. Install applications and commission them at client facilities. Collaborate with internal Electrical Designers to establish requirements, review and approve designs, and perform redline markups post-commissioning. Conduct field surveys to evaluate design constraints. Work with electrical personnel to perform I/O checks and lead troubleshooting activities. Accountable for project results, including financial targets. Become an integral member of each customer’s team to help achieve their business objectives. Develop and program SCADA applications for wastewater treatment processes. Design, test, and implement automation solutions to optimize system performance. Prepare and maintain documentation, including design specifications, user manuals, and training materials. Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to identify and address system requirements. Perform system integration, testing, and commissioning at client sites. Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to SCADA systems and automation. Provide technical support and training to end-users. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in SCADA programming and automation, preferably in the wastewater industry. Proficiency in SCADA software such as GE Proficy iFIX, AVEVA, Wonderware, Ignition, Factorytalk SE Network Distributed/Local, Factorytalk ME, Factorytalk Transactional Manager and System Platform. Proficiency experience with deploying and troubleshooting WIN911 (including Sierra SMS modem and Grandstream UCM6300). Experience with deploying Dream Report connected to SQL based historian, PI Historian and Proficy Historian. Experience with deploying and troubleshooting WIN911 (including Sierra SMS modem and Grandstream UCM6300). Understanding chemical dosing, aeration and filtration processes. Strong knowledge of PLC programming and HMI development Knowledge of programming and tunning a compound loop (PID/step/slider/flow control) with feedforward. Experience with communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, OPC UA/DA, ControlNet, DF1, DH+, DH485, Rest API and Bacnet IP/MSTP. Programming experience with C++, VB.NET, Python, Structure Text. Experience of deploying distributed systems for control and data storage redundancies. General understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes and equipment. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to client sites as needed.
Additional Requirements: Experience with advanced data analytics and reporting tools. Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices for SCADA systems. Knowledge of multiple SCADA platforms. Certification in relevant SCADA or automation technologies. Project management skills
About your working environment: Will be required to wear protective equipment in designated areas such as hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed safety boots. May be exposed to cold, heat and humidity, loud noise levels, and dust. Manual dexterity is required to use desktop computers and peripherals. Local travel (Greater Toronto Area). Overtime as required.
Compensation: Base pay: $55,000 to $65,000. The final compensation offered will be determined based on the candidate’s level of experience, skills and qualifications. We look at compensation for each individual and base our offer on your unique qualifications, experience, and expected contributions. This position may also be eligible for other types of compensation in addition to base salary, such as variable bonus and/or stock bonus.
