About This Opportunity We are seeking a Platforms Development Intern for the May 2026 – August 2026 (4‑month) work term.
In this role, the intern will develop new or revise existing embedded middleware and IoT products, utilizing processes based on established engineering principles, and by applying the latest technological advancements and coding practices in embedded systems development to meet product development and project requirements.
Key Accountabilities:

Management:

Keeps track of own progress on all assigned technical tasks, and regularly provides concise up-to-date status.
-
Demonstrates general understanding of engineering development practice and processes and contributes to their improvement.

Elaborates and presents effective solutions to problems or inefficiencies.
-
Technical:
-
Understands and follows the company’s processes and procedures for developing software applications to control safety systems and vehicles.
-
Develops and implements software applications for embedded systems.
-
Understands embedded systems architectures, designs, and various APIs.
-
Interprets electronics and electrical schematics, understands mechanical interfaces and 3D models.
-
Architects code structure, writes code, and debugs.
-
Encrypts and packages application releases.
-
Writes test procedures and tests software code.
-
Reviews test procedures and test results.
-
Supports in-house testing teams to analyze and identify issues.
-
Communication:
-
Articulates technical design issues and their resolutions clearly and concisely for review and approval by the engineering staff.
-
Maintains professional relationships with both internal and external associates at all levels.
-
Promotes harmonious working relationships among team members.
-
Demonstrates professionalism in all job-related interactions.
Key Requirements:

Skills & Experience:
-
Understanding of engineering development methodologies and processes.
-
Knowledge of web application development for IoT devices, including TCP/IP stack.
-
Experience with full-stack web development frameworks (e.g., Django).
-
Programming experience in Python, JavaScript, and C#.
-
Familiarity with Ruby, Perl, and VB scripting is considered an asset.
-
Experience with version control systems such as Git and Bitbucket.
-
Familiarity with JFrog, Docker, and Sphinx tools.
-
Knowledge of modern software engineering practices and tools.
-
Familiarity with electrical CAD tools (e.g., Allegro, Mentor CAD tools, AutoCAD Electrical).
-
Experience with OO software development in C++ Visual Studio is considered an asset.
-
Familiarity with Linux OS is considered an asset.
-
Familiarity with mechanical CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD LT, SolidWorks, CREO).
-
Education:
-
Enrolled in Mechatronics, Computer/Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or similar university program.

Technical/Specialized Knowledge:
-
Demonstrates resourceful problem-solving and logical reasoning abilities in effective design solutions.
-
Maintains awareness of technological advancements beyond the primary discipline.
-
Ability to interpret and document software and hardware requirements and write test qualification plans/reports.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with high-power systems controlled by web applications.
- Familiarity with Django Web Development Framework or similar tools.
- Understanding of client-server application architectures and APIs for IoT systems.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Foundation Classes and Visual Studio tools.
- Familiarity with scripting frameworks and modern version control environments.
