Our Edmonton Trenchless Technologies Team has several leading trenchless specialists that are engaged on projects across Canada, the US, and other countries throughout the world. We specialize in the design of trenchless installation and rehabilitation applications and condition assessment programs. Our team fosters the development of our staff through strong mentorship and exposure to small to large complex projects across a diverse range of industries and regions. Your Opportunity

An opportunity currently exists for an Intermediate Trenchless Engineer in our Trenchless Technologies Team within our Water Group. The ideal candidate will have a combination of technical and management skills suited to lead and participate in the delivery of conveyance piping, trenchless installation, rehabilitation, and condition assessment projects for municipal and industrial clients. It is expected that the Intermediate Trenchless Engineer will utilize their knowledge and experience on similar projects to guide their project teams.

As an Intermediate Trenchless Engineer your work will include undertaking engineering studies, engineering design and document preparation, construction contract administration, field work and/or field inspections as required. You will assist in leading project teams in the execution of projects to ensure delivery, resource efficiency and cost-effectiveness, and lead the design as appropriate.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage internal and external client expectations and relationships.
  • Support marketing and business development activities in positioning for potential projects, writing proposals or technical portions of multidisciplinary proposals.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control reviews of technical deliverables (e.g. drawings, reports, etc.), including the evaluation of the completed work for accuracy and completeness.
  • Understand and implement industry standards and manuals as well as client and regulatory agency standards and requirements.
  • Conduct alternative analyses to support business case evaluations for making project decisions.
  • Participate and lead in the design as skills dictate to ensure efficient project delivery, and take professional responsibility for deliverables (e.g. Engineer-of-Record).
  • Implement understanding of discipline-specific construction elements as they relate to design to select construction methods and defining work area limits.
  • Provide mentoring to other developing technical staff and engineers-in-training.
  • Engage in leadership in Professional organizations that align with your expertise; write technical papers and deliver technical presentations for conferences.

Your Capabilities and Credentials:

  • Proven civil design (water conveyance, utilities, etc.) or geotechnical design experience.
  • Registered with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), or eligible to register.
  • Intermediate to advanced understanding of trenchless design engineering concepts and principles and their application.
  • Excellent communication, written, and presentation skills.
  • Experience in client-facing roles.
  • Experience in proposal writing.
  • Collaborative in nature, with ability to contribute to multidisciplinary teams.
  • Understanding of all phases of project implementation, and strong understanding of engineering design processes.
  • Proven technical experience in one or more of the following areas:- Design and construction of trenchless piping installation and rehabilitation of sewers, watermains, electrical and communication conduits, and gas pipelines
  • Knowledge of relevant codes and standards for the trenchless industry
  • Condition assessment of municipal and industrial water and sewer infrastructure
  • Development of technical specifications and reports
  • Working knowledge of various software for planning and design of trenchless installations and rehabilitation (AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar) will be considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of various geotechnical modeling software used for planning and design of trenchless installations (Rocscience 2D&3D, PLAXIS 2D&3D, midas GTS NX, FLAC3D) will be considered an asset.

Your Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or equivalent.
  • M.Sc. or M.Eng. in Trenchless Engineering or related geotechnical field will be considered an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License.
  • Minimum of 8 years of consulting experience, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the delivery of trenchless projects.
  • Positive working relationships with clients.

Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
