Intermediate Data Scientist at JUDI.AI
Location: Vancouver, BC (Hybrid – office in Kitsilano)
JUDI.AI – who we are
At JUDI.AI, we’re on a mission to help transform small business dreams into vibrant communities. As a fast-paced fintech startup, we provide financial institutions with the tools to better understand and serve small businesses. Our values of Caring, Innovative, and Trustworthy guide everything we do, from our products to our culture.
We’re growing quickly, and our Data Science team drives much of the innovation at the heart of JUDI.AI. If you’re looking to apply your skills to impactful real-world problems while helping shape the future of small business lending, we’d love to meet you.
The Role
We’re looking for an Intermediate Data Scientist to join our collaborative team in Vancouver. This role is a mix of data science, data engineering and analytical support, with opportunities to contribute to production code in a startup environment where everyone wears multiple hats. You’ll work closely with product managers and company leadership to deliver data insights, help build modern pipelines, prototype new models, and help scale our operations.
This is an exciting opportunity to join early in our growth journey. You’ll be learning from a strong talent pool while building our next generation models, infrastructure and capabilities that will shape the future of JUDI.AI.
What You’ll Do
Explore and analyze financial transaction and loan performance data to generate insights and prototype models.
Build and evaluate risk models (e.g., logistic regression, decision trees) and explore new techniques (including NLP and more advanced ML methods).
Contribute to building modern pipelines by building data engineering tools and performing QA and documentation tasks
Perform data analytical investigations that support Judi’s commercial and leadership teams
Research emerging approaches and tools, bringing fresh ideas into our modeling and analytics processes.
Contribute to production code when needed. While this isn’t the core of the role, you will gain exposure to MLOps practices and tools.
Communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, helping translate data into business impact.
What We’re Looking For
Solid foundation in machine learning and statistics (academic or applied).
Proficiency in Python (scikit-learn, pandas, NumPy) and SQL.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to data quality and detail.
Excellent communication skills. You will need to be able to explain complex concepts simply to stakeholders.
Collaborative, personable, and eager to learn and contribute to a team-oriented culture.
Curious and ambitious: you enjoy exploring new techniques, reading research, and trying out new approaches.
1-3 years profession experience as a data scientist OR Master’s degree in related field
Bonus Points
Familiarity with tools like Docker, FastAPI, MLFlow, or cloud environments.
Experience with financial data and/or credit risk (not required, but a plus).
Why Join Us
Be part of a mission-driven startup transforming how small businesses access credit.
Work closely with a talented and supportive team that values both technical rigor and collaboration.
Hybrid setup: work remotely but meet weekly in our Kitsilano office to share knowledge and stay connected.
Extra-long weekends: whenever there’s a public holiday, you’ll get an additional day off on top.
Opportunity to learn fast, grow your skills, and make an outsized impact at an early stage of company growth.
