Role Description The Treatment Plant Operator is a full-time, union position (CUPE Local 770) based in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, reporting to the Director of Infrastructure – Public Works. The successful candidate will be responsible for the operation, monitoring, maintenance, and repair of the Municipality's wastewater collection and treatment system, including lagoons, sanitary sewers, force mains, lift stations, pumping stations, treatment facilities, and related equipment. Responsibilities include monitoring treatment processes, collecting wastewater samples, performing routine testing, maintaining operational and regulatory records, conducting preventative maintenance, inspecting wastewater infrastructure, coordinating maintenance activities, and ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations. The position also requires participation in scheduled overtime and emergency call-outs, as required.
Qualifications
Minimum Grade 12 diploma (or equivalent) with related training as required by the Municipal District of St. Stephen and/or the Province of New Brunswick. Class II Wastewater Treatment (WWT) Operator Certification, or Class I WWT Operator Certification with the demonstrated ability and commitment to obtain Class II certification as soon as reasonably practicable. Experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of wastewater collection and treatment systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable to the Municipality. Valid Class 3F New Brunswick Driver's License. Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, pumping stations, mechanical and electrical equipment, and preventative maintenance practices. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, maps, and specifications. Strong troubleshooting, record-keeping, communication, and organizational skills. Demonstrated commitment to workplace health and safety, including confined space procedures. Ability to work independently, respond to emergencies, and perform physically demanding work in varying weather conditions..

The Town of St. Stephen is a municipality on the border of New Brunswick, Canada and Calais Maine, USA. St. Stephen is officially Canada’s Chocolate Town, proud of its chocolate-related heritage. Today the town enjoys an annual Chocolate Fest, as well as a Chocolate Museum and Chocolatier. In 1604 French explorers Sieur de Monts and Samuel de Champlain chose Saint Croix Island for the capital of L’Acadie. Their settlement there was short-lived but set the St. Croix so firmly in record that it was used to mark future boundaries, including the current boundary between the United States and Canada on which St. Stephen is situated.
