Flight Follower
About the role
The Flight Follower is responsible for monitoring environmental conditions, providing pre-flight information concerning current and forecast weather, airport conditions, and other related data in preparation of operational flight plans. This person is responsible to monitor the progress of flights, help with decision making regarding delaying or cancelling of flights and working closely with other departments involved with Daily Operations. This role involves various aspects of System Operations, including answering calls on the Dispatch phone line, working the Flight Following Desk and supporting Crew Schedulers and Maintenance Operations Control in coordinating daily operational requirements.
Working from our head office, located at Edmonton International Airport (YEG), this position is scheduled from Sunday to Friday on a shift rotation covering 24 hours - working 12 hour shifts; along with monthly weekend on-call cell coverage.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Answer calls to the Dispatch line and work closely with Crew Scheduling and Maintenance Operational Control;

Able to read and comprehend weather data – METARS, TAFs, radar imagery;

Thorough knowledge and understanding of Company Operational manuals (SMS, Ground Handling, Dangerous Goods, etc.);
-
Able to work the Flight Following desk for 12 hrs rotational shifts (days/nights);
-
Able to work holidays / long weekends when need arises;

Consistent and ongoing review of all aspects of System Operations;

Ensure all data has been collected and entered and flight logs audited;

Monitor emails and internal communication tools for pertinent information and take action / inform parties;

Assist when necessary with company-wide travel requests (airline/hotel/transportation);

Assist the Manager of System Operations with various tasks, coordinating with the Network Operations Center (NOC), and assist with special projects.
Qualifications:

College Diploma or University Degree an asset;
-
Direct work experience in an aviation environment (minimum 2-5 years), preferably in an Operational role;
-
An understanding of the Dangerous Goods Regulations;
-
Knowledgeable in CARs (Canadian Aviation Regulations);
-
Proficient with Microsoft products;
-
Must be willing to work on call as well as various shifts;

Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
